Who knows man, we almost got Gretzky here but the owner messed that up, got Messier, Sundin, almost got Scott Neidermayer but his bro was in anaheim. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/n ... s-to-align

Never underestimate the influence of a rich and powerful ownership group.

Lol almost got Gretzky... and instead got Guddy

Messier was a mess when he got here. He was cooked

Same with Frankenswede however he was ramping up in the playoffs in his only season in the puking whale. He would have beasted if not for Mitchell and Luongo.

Niedermayer was never ever coming here

Since this is the rumour thread I'll post this, but I'd heard that Nonis had an internal budget that would not permit Naslund at $6 mil and Nieds at $6.5+.

Three months after Nieds signed, Aquilini bought out Macaw and became 100% owner, but that's a pretty big one for the what-if pile.

There's as much reason for Karlsson to come here as there is for Pettersson to dream of playing in Vancouver since the age of 5...Image

There is something weird about Swedes and loving Vancouver. Canada, they generally like, but for some reason they fucking love Vancouver. We had a buddy visit from Stockholm, who's lived in London and New York for the past 20 years, and he was literally giddy driving through Peace Arch into South Surrey for the first time.

SKYO do yourself a favour and end your Karlsson fantasy, not happening. Plus his next contract will cause nothing but cap problems, he’s a devkjjjng asset as well, a peaked asset

Quitting is for losers RD.

Edler-Karlsson
Hughes-Tanev

You get that top 4 D - that's entering Nashville Predator defense there - then the rest of the D...
(who cares) but it'll be a mishmash of OJ, Guds, Woo, Utonen, Chatfield, maybe Brisebois and Tryamkin.
Hutton, Stecher dealt for picks to keep the prospect cupboards full for the down the road.

If you are concerned of the cap, we chop some fat off when Petey's contract kicks in a mill here a mill there, & the June 2021 expansion draft Seattle likely takes a vet like roussel or beags or eriksson (all 3 will have 1 yr left on their respective deals).

all good bro, save our assets by giving EK the big bucks and not having to trade for a Faulk, Pesce or Liljegren etc.

That's a nice top four.
Not sure of the cap and expansion draft issues that would come later, but that's a nice top four.
I could see Karlsson being interested in playing with Edler and especially with EP40.
Not an unreasonable signing possibility.

Even with the age difference, I would rather have Edler over Tanev, hands down.

What is funny is listening to all the chat and scenarios about Eddy on the radio.
He could waive his no-trade and get something for us at the deadline then in July. sign a thank-you 3 year deal with the Canucks.
He-he... Does anyone know what the league fine is for that?
Your not even aloud to talk about it with a certified agent listening in.
Hey! It's the Canucks, and you know we would get nailed.

Pretty, (actually very), sure, Jim will keep both.

Grabbing that top 4 next season would be incredible IF Hughes is ready. If he’s not the it’s not as good, but still something to look at having the following season.

As for payroll and cap.....

Hutton would become trade bait.

Losing overpaid bloat like Sutter, Eriksson, Schaller, Roussel, and, with that top 4, ultimately Gudbranson and Stecher, will make some cap room.

Then hoping that Juolevi and Woo develop into legit top-4’s and that a couple of the others, like Brisebois, manage to become reliable 5/6/7 guys.....

Then maybe in 3 years we have...

Hughes - Woo
Juolevi - Karlsson
Brisebois - Tryamkin/Utonen

Just spitballing.

I would still like to see us find a a couple of “heavyweights” on the back end. One for the top-4 and another for the 5-7 spots. The game is changing to speed and skill, but it’s done that before, and last time it made an abrupt shift back to ground and pound right when we were the team with best balance of speed and skill but up against the ground and pound specialists from Beantown for 7 games one preferably forgotten spring.....just saying that you always need an answer.

Jason Bitchford is confident that Dale Tallon wants Gudbranson back?

Anyhow the selling list

Sutter or Beagle - playoff teams always are looking for centre depth and defence
Gudbranson for whatever
Hutton
Stecher
Eriksson if you can find a taker
Granlund - for whatever
Schaller - for whatever
Pouliot - for whatever
Del Zotto - for whatever
Tryamkin's rights
Goldobin maybe
Gaunce maybe
Baertschi maybe
Motte if somebody asks

NO TO TRADING TANEV AND EDLER!!!!!! Enough already. Our D would be ridiculously awful without one of them let alone both. They need to stick for the wisdom factor of the room full of kids. Good examples on and off the ice.

Other untouchables along with Edler and Tanev

Markstrom
Demko
DiPietro
Hughes
Woo
Juolevi
Pettersson
Horvat
Boeser
Virtanen
Gaudette
Madden
Lockwood
Rathbone
Roussel
Dahlen too early
Lind too early
Gadjovich too early
Brisebios too early

1 of DiPietro and Demko can be traded but not both. Not saying it would be high on my list of things to do but with the right offer, yes.

TBH: my 'untouchables' list is much shorther then yours. But to me that list is of players that you turn down virtually all offers.

My Untouchables:

Pettersson
Boeser
Horvat
1st round pick in 2019
Hughes
1 of Demko/ DiPietro

Need an amazing offer:

Edler
Tanev (more I think about it, the better it would be to keep them around)
Virtanen
Gaudette
Beagle - great example for the kids
1 of Demko / DiPietro

Thats about it. Doesn't mean I want to trade the rest, just you would for the right offer.

Should try damn hard to trade:

Sutter - Someone should overpay for him for a playoff run
Gudbranson - same as above
Hutton
Stretcher
Schaller

Needs to be traded for anything:

MDZ
Gagner
Gaunce
Pouliot

Way too early to be trading Demko or DiPietro. We don’t know what we have in them at the NHL level, you can never have too much depth in goaltending, look at Philly.

Not saying I would try to trade them but I would move 1 of them in the right situation/trade.

looking at teams out of the playoff picture right now and their rental players:

sens Stone/Duchene/dzingel
wings vanek/howard/kronwall/nyquist
nyr hayes/zuccarello/mcquaid
canes williams/martinook/ferland/mrazek
kings hagelin
flyers simmonds/weal
ducks silfverberg/miller
canucks mdz/edler
az panik
blues maroon/jbo
panthers brouwer
oilers petrovic/chiasson/talbot/koskinen
blackhawks kruger/kunitz/ward

*notable cbj Bobrovsky/panarin (they say they gonna keep em and let the chips fall where they may, they should have dealt them though in the offseason).

The Canucks hold the trump card in Alex Edler - the best dman for a rental available this year.

That trade with Calgary isn’t looking so hot for the Hurricanes. Hamilton has done fuck all and Ferkland might bolt as a UFA. How much coin will Fetland command?

5X5 maybe .... more?
