Please forgive me if I'm wrong Bloberto, but do I sense just a wee bit of pessimism at times?Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Tue Jul 17, 2018 1:45 pm Aha I’ll believe it when I see it.
He couldn’t get out of here fast enough the first time. He was on the first flight after season ending meetings and immediately put pen to paper on a new contract. Aha

I have memories of seeing him on the local channel.
The big guys bank in the day locally were Al Tomko, Moondog Moretti, Dean Ho, Vern Seibert and of course Gene Kiniski

Like any true Canuck fan, I cheered for Silent Mackey.

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Me too. This is a good deal.
Re: Canuck News and Notes - 2018-2019
High pick, good-but-not-earth-shattering results gets a player $5.5 AAV and a 6 year deal.
High pick and middling results gets a player $1.25 AAV and 2 years.
Is Horvat really more skilled (i.e., JV overvalued @ 18 yo), or is he just smarter, a better listener, and a harder worker....
To me, Virtanen is the other side of the Hughes-is-too-small fear. Scouts, especially those that spit on advanced stats (instead of seeing them for what they are -- another tool among many to evaluate and project), overvalue the Virtanen's of the world because they are big and fast. You didn't need advanced stats to worry about JV; the junior top line numbers weren't there for a 6th overall.
I like that he improved this past season -- particularly in using his speed and cutting hard to the net from time to time. When my brain adjusted from "power forward" to "fearless fast guy," I started to see more potential. But he hasn't earned a dollar more than he signed this contract for....

I agree he hasn't earned anything more. In light of the Stecher deal, I was preparing myself for a similar (small) over-payment to Virtanen as well.UWSaint wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 10:12 am I like that he improved this past season -- particularly in using his speed and cutting hard to the net from time to time. IMO, really good bargain. Makes me wonder though. Very easily traded.
I hope he works out here. Still have high hopes...

Still, the chances of him outperforming this contract are very, very high.
(especially if he finally starts seeing 2nd PP icetime)
(and no doubt his overall icetime will go up this year)
Anyway, I think we can all agree there's nothing to not like about this contract...
Everyone signed now and gobs of cap-room this season and next!
(even with the coming Boeser extension)

I really hope he gets a lot of pp2 time, and that they use him for the zone entry, it was so frustrating watching them not gain the zone.Strangelove wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 10:59 amStill, the chances of him outperforming this contract are very, very high.

Yes. He simply has to be a little better than last year, and given that last year he took a step and still seems to have more to give, I'd say you are right.Strangelove wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 10:59 amStill, the chances of him outperforming this contract are very, very high.
I'd like to see the Canucks try him on the PK....
