Re: Canuck News and Notes - 2018-2019
The systems play looks a lot better without Goldobin on the ice. The forwards are always covering for pinching defenders. There were still some tire fires to put out especially when the bottom pairing defenders were caught in their own zone, but generally everyone knew what to do on the ice. If the backup goalie can win as many as he loses, and if Markstrom stays hot, with EP40 returning, I think the playoffs are a good possibility. I still think Gaudette should be the third line centre and Sutter should move to his wing, but that’s just splitting hairs. Pretty happy with the team this year.

Gaudette's got a ways go before he displaces Sutter from the faceoff circle
Re: Canuck News and Notes - 2018-2019
I've stated elsewhere that EP40 should not be rushed back. In the post you quoted I was trying to indicate that I could understand and somewhat agree with Mick's POV while again agreeing with Mick in that I believe it's eyeroll worthy that Greene is supposedly the one keeping EP40 out of the line up. He's good enough that if his knee was 100% he would be playing. It smells off to me is all.Lancer wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 8:45 amOr...Carlyee wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 8:36 amSure, except it appears that Green is keeping him out "to see a good practice". It stinks like Green is using this as an opportunity to show that no one is above the law so to speak. I don't like it. It's not a union, treat your better employees better. Mick is not wrong.
The organization's drive to make the playoffs isn't so hell-bent-for-leather as some would think; if the stakes were truly that high there may be more push to get Pettersson back. I have a feeling that they're looking long-term with Pettersson and the young core. I think the team is right where management wants them - and they've done it without Pettersson lately.
Besides, there's merit to the experience of learning how to win without your marquee player. God knows it will happen again down the road.
I want to make the playoffs. it might be good for free agent attractions. They may get killed in the playoffs but hey that's why they play the games. I also want them to draft high to find our version of Marner or Malkin.

Carl you seem conflicted. You want playoffs but you also want a high pick

You are correct. But I'd never expect the team to intentionally tank. Winners want to win.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 10:41 am Carl you seem conflicted. You wa8nt playoffs but you also want a high pick

That’s a general consensus blobBlob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 10:41 am Carl you seem conflicted. You want playoffs but you also want a high pick
We win a couple games playoffs look good
We lose a couple games picking high looks good
It appears to me the fan base is good either way at this time as long as the light gets brighter at the end of the tunnel.... which right now is!

Yup.
But if you have a third line of Eriksson Gaudette Sutter, Sutter can take all the face-offs. It gives the line more speed and Gaudette can pass better, too.
When there is a PK, you throw out Sutter and Eriksson, so Gaudette’s ice time is still limited. As he gets better he can be used more on the PP to increase his ice time.
Sutter reminds me of Linden stylistically. I always liked Linden better on RW than when he played centre because he could do powerful drives down the wing and grind along the boards. Sutter can also do that. Neither Linder nor Sutter were natural play makers. Gaudette has more of that in his game. Also having five quality NHL centres on the team (Pettersson, Horvat, Gaudette, Sutter and Beagle) gives the team more flexibility to deal with in game injuries or penalty trouble.

In the current collective bargaining agreement, the NHLPA (players union) negotiated a minimum # of mandatory days off per month and a minimum # of hours off between games and practices. While Pettersson is visibly unhappy, despite his words, with the decision to be kept out, it is ultimately not his decision to make.

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

On Gaudette; I don't think he was hurting the team at all and was on an improving trend with pretty much all aspects of his game.
But: My thing is, he is, or is slated to be a center, even if he were here playing a different position, at times, other than center,
he would be seeing,(or face offing against), the 120 or so dudes he has to learn to beat and battle in the circle.
One could say: But Mick, he's probably be the 4th line center and he wont face off against the best, but then what about icings and having to?
Or tired lines? If it were wing or D, I wouldn't be so adamant.

I think Jake can be effective. Just master the role and the timing of it...

Did you see Jake try to throw an elbow at Skinner as he passed him behind the net?
Re: Canuck News and Notes - 2018-2019
Best part! I think he coulda nailed him with it but got exactly what he wanted instead.5thhorseman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 12:08 pm Did you see Jake try to throw an elbow at Skinner as he passed him behind the net?
On a totally, (very much totally), different note;
@sportsnetmurph
Pettersson taking part in full practice and on a line with Boeser and Leivo. #canucks

I think Jake, deep down, is an asshole.
I think the coaches have spent 4 years trying to get that out of him and make him a smarter player, and hopefully it makes him a smarter asshole.

I don't get having Kero up. I know there's not a lot of love for Gaunce, but he has a better ppg than Kero and is 2 years younger. I know there's more to hockey than that, but still...
