JB must really be swinging for the fences this year going for speed and skill.

The biggest pick is the goalie and Woo(hoo). Everyone else is a sub-6footer.

"Madden now has bragging rights on his dad, John Madden, a former undrafted NHLer.
But dad still has the upper-hand: “when he gets three cups, we’ll talk.”
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Late first round to several spots after where the Canucks picked him.

No one has complained that hard about the pick (yet). I don't think you need to start defending it unless he struggles to make the team in two years.
I hear Woo slipped from the 20th spot in central scouting after suffering a shoulder injury mid-season.

Here's a write up on the goalie we selected.

Thiessen will play in the NCAA after this upcoming season so he is several away from us being able to evaluate whether he is NHL material or not. I like the positional pick. We still have Markstrom, then Demko, then Dipietro, now Thiessen. Good transitional planning.

And hey Benning has an extra 6th next year!!

A lovely set of prizes, thank you.

I've heard the same. Now the hope is that the Canucks have developed and undertaken some sort of rational physical/medical assessment to determine the relative likelihood of it being a one-time stochastic event vs. an indicator of relative fragility, and acted on that information.

It would, after all, be the genius thing to do.

Breakdown of our picks. Copied from somewhere:

CANUCKS’ DRAFT PICKS IN DALLAS

1. Quinn Hughes, seventh overall, 18-year-old defenceman from the University of Michigan

2. Jett Woo, 37th overall, 17-year-old defenceman from the Moose Jaw Warriors

3. Tyler Madden, 68th overall, 18-year-old centre from the USHL

4. Toni Utunen, 130th overall, 18-year-old defenceman from Finland

5. Artyom Manukyan, 186th overall, 20-year-old forward out of the KHL

6. Matthew Thiessen, 192nd overall, 18-year-old goalie out of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League

Interesting on Manukyan, he's 5'7" and a whopping 14o lbs. Someone for Petrus Palmu to play with in the sandbox? The kid though is said to be a prolific score, fast with skill. This was his second draft and Benning said they almost took him last year. Wonder if he comes to prospect ts camp.
