What to do about the Sedins? (Poll)

Post by Cornuck » Sat Jan 20, 2018 9:54 am

Just curious what everyone thinks should be with the Sedins next year.

Shop them at the trade deadline- get some picks / prospects (and then cut them loose)
Shop them at the trade deadline with the aim or re-signing them in the summer.
Cut them loose on July 1st? Say thanks and move on?
Keep them in the organization? Pull them off the roster, but keep them around in some kind of 'player development' role.
Sign them to a 1 year contract and look at renewing it each year.
Sign them to a 2 year contract for less per year.
Sign them for longer than 2 years.

We arnt going anywhere quite yet I think sign for 1 year at much reduced amount.

Re-look next year, unless they want a shot at it then let them go.

I'm fine with them sticking around another year. They've shown this year that they can still step up when the injuries hit, and until that happens, they can be a formidable 3rd line.

Yes, they're slow - but as long as Green gives the youth more ice time, then they fill a role.

They're true pros, and can only be a positive influence on the younger guys.

As for salary, it should be with 3rd line minutes in mind, but will likely be on the higher side due to their history. They've had the big contract, so they shouldn't be asking for the moon. We don't need to spend to the cap, and cap space shouldn't be an issue next year - so if they truly want "to help the team" - then they can take a lower rate. In the end it will be up to how generous Aquaman wants to be, and how 'helpful' the Sedins want to be. As long as it doesn't take up to much cap space, we'll just need to remember it's not our money.

I can see them doing one more year here, then maybe do a final year in Sweden. Retire, then come back to the team in some position.

As for the plan to dump them and move on past the Sedin era, there's a lot that can be said for that, but I'd rather see the Sedins here for a final year than bring in 2 UFA placeholders that may or may not work out. #winningculture #mentors

TRADE 2HELP CANUCKS

I'm NOT fine with the slow motion elders here another year slower.
A long time ago, a baseball player remarked: "If I owned a ballclub, I'd hire a $5,000 coach and a $15,000 scout."

Offer Henrik a 1 year deal but jettison Daniel.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Either of the top 2, depends on the deal as the team trading for them might want to resign them for 1 year.

Reality is a 1 year deal.

I would offer them a 1 year at 2 mil a season each. But I think they retire. Currently they are untraditional unless we retain salary.

Let them stay as long as they want.

They won't return to Sweden for a year, they honestly love Vancouver more than Sweden now, they mostly spend their summers here now that the kids are older.

At the right cap hit, they are no detriment to the team, and I'm a big believer in having players who love the city/team.

I would prefer the trade and re-sign deal but with the qualification that JB carefully explore the option and exert no pressure should they not be interested (I am well aware they have NMC's but would like relations to stay as cordial and respectful as possible). I think the best approach would be to present them with the option and see if they have any interest if the right deal came along. If their response is "no", end it there. If they say "maybe", explore the options with them and see if something comes along that works for them and the team.

In the event the above is not an option, I'd vote for signing them on a year-to-year basis until they decide it is time to retire (to the extent they are willing to take reasonable pay cuts).

Let them play out their contracts and decide if they want to retire or sign elsewhere. Theyre untradeable and aren't exactly playoff performers even though their post season numbers aren't bad.

If Benning can move them to a contender for even a 2nd and a 3rd, and they actually want to go, pull the trigger and leave the door open for them to come back on 1 year contracts next year.

At this point I think they have to request that deal though.

Otherwise bring them back next season on a 1 year contract at 3rd line rates.

I am a bit surprised we are in the smaller of the majority.
