Not a bad move for them. Cost nothing and if it doesn’t work out let him go

Looking over the trades involving some key dmen, the more I think JB has a chance at pulling off a Sabres/Jets big trade involving multiple pieces.
And the team I'd heavily target is the Minnesota Wild, they are right up against the cap, have no big UFA expiring contracts this summer, and have two RFA's that will command bigger dollars in Zucker and Dumba.
A comparable deal I'd like to see happen is the Sabres - Jets trade:
Sabres acquired: Jason Kasdorf, Zach Bogosian, Evander Kane
for
Jets acquired: Brendan Lemieux, Joel Armia, Drew Stafford, Tyler Myers, 2015 1st round pick.
So to immulate that,
Canucks acquire: Matt Dumba + Nino Niederreiter. (winterhawk connect!) filler piece
for
Wild acquire: Chris Tanev + Jake Virtanen + Markus Granlund (Mikael's bro), they save a few bucks - add young depth, and their defense is further solidified with Tanev, while they still have scoring dmen in Suter, Spurgeon and Brodin.
+ It's the only way I'd deal Virtanen is if another young powerforward is coming back.
Wild new lineup
Zucker - Staal - Mi Granlund
Parise - Koivu - Coyle
Ennis - Cullen - Virtanen
Foligno - ErikssonEk - Ma Granlund
Suter - Tanev
Brodin - Spurgeon
Olofsson - Prosser

Is Niederreiter the young power forward coming back?SKYO wrote: ↑Fri Mar 02, 2018 4:18 pm Looking over the trades involving some key dmen, the more I think JB has a chance at pulling off a Sabres/Jets big trade involving multiple pieces.

He's hardly a power forward dude. He's got size, but he's not a drop the shoulder drive the net kind of guy, and he's not really a hitter either (less that 1 per game compared to Jake's 1.7). Jake leads all Canucks forwards in hits by a long ways this year.
Niederreiter is also 4 years older.
Dumba is 6' 184lbs. You're basically getting a younger Tanev, but this one is more offensive than defensive.
Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 17-18 Sponsored by SKYO
True about Nino, plus imo he's paid quite a bit, but targeting Dumba would be a solid hockey deal move, only if the wild can't afford him.
Anyways, with alllllll the dmen in the nhl draft 1st round available, the Canucks should really start planning on trying to move one of Edler or Tanev by or before the draft for multiple picks.

From Botchford: I did hear a team — or teams — called in recent weeks to inquire on Eriksson’s availability via trade.
Impossible you say?
Was told Montreal was one, which would add up because the Habs were in on Eriksson when he was a free agent and their current head coach is Claude Julien who just happens to be the head coach.
As the story goes, Montreal wasn’t going to do anything unless the Canucks retained salary.

For what it's worth I've been told to not be surprised to see Eriksson traded this summer.
The only HW the Canucks need

Wouldn’t this price your point? That’s his contract is not so bad that it’s untradeable.....Strangelove wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 2:24 pmNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 2:13 pm For what it's worth I've been told to not be surprised to see Eriksson traded this summer.

Seriously? If Benning could move that deal he'd deserve massive kudos. Although I suspect we'd have to take an equally bad contract back.Strangelove wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 2:24 pmNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 2:13 pm For what it's worth I've been told to not be surprised to see Eriksson traded this summer.

Hmmm Canucks trade him after paying the $6M signing bonus on July 1stHockey Widow wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 2:13 pm For what it's worth I've been told to not be surprised to see Eriksson traded this summer.
... and only $1M in real dollars is due Lou for the 2018-19 season.
Total real dollars due Lou over the last 4 years of the contract would be $14M.
($3.5M average per year... with a $6M cap hit)
So a trade to a real-money conscious team could happen.
I figured Loui wouldn't waive his NTC because of his big family (4 kids)
... but maybe all the pressure in Vancouver is getting to him?
Even if that's true, it's still a hard trade to make.
Loui gets to choose where he goes...
I figured we'd have to wait until 2020 when he has to submit a 15-team trade list, but maybe not.

Benning will have to eat a poor contract back if he wants to deal Louis

Or retain some salary. Not that bad a deal considering the cap space the club will have after the Twins retire.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 4:32 pm Benning will have to eat a poor contract back if he wants to deal Louis
If Benning can get this guy off the roster for anything better than a 4th round pick, I'd be dancing in my basement - sober.
