This is not a game of "what if". :scowl:

The offer was a real-life occurrence.

All this time I've been criticizing the offer.

The fact everyone ended up concluding he was a $2.5M guy (at best) at age 38 proved me right.

I'm was concerned about the 2nd year of the idiotic $20M offer.

Sundin would have been 38 years old starting that 2nd year

... and would have had the highest cap-hit in the NHL by far.

He was worth $2.5M max and would have received $10M.

R U I N E D

Your Canucks wouldn't have been able to afford a few of their star players (did you check out the link?)

How do they "win a cup" with some of those star players removed?

Hell, a person could argue "No Presidents Trophies and No 2011 Playoff Run".

The fact he (miraculously) didn't accept the Tard Offer, doesn't excuse Gillis from offering it.
I was going to look up sundins stats from the season prior but Esq did it for me...thx
20m was the offer in the summer that he didnt accept and as pointed out semi-retired to play cards and get fucked up at the lake. He was on record as saying he hadn't been working out but with persistence the canucks coaxed him out for one last hurrah.

Also you cant quantify with numbers what his presence meant to emerging superstars H+D as well as Kesler. He was a hockey legend and inspired the pack of wild swedes that were the heart of the soon to be contender, as well as launching them into art ross trophies. I would say he most certainly helped push those 2 into the upper echelon of the NHL.

Considering how adept MG and Gilman were at fiddling the numbers I am sure they would've carried on as such and found a way.

Straw grasper!
"Straw grasper"

I've been clearly talking about the 2nd year of that Tard Offer... what about THAT!

Yes, but don't you see how that ties in with this year's development camp? C'mon, IN - make the connection!

They would have wasted at least $7.5M in a $56.8 salary cap world.

How does that compare to anything going on "now".

You whine about a little cap-space now

... but the massive waste of cap-space was okay then?

There is no way to defend Gillis' ludicrous $20M offer...
And after your dance .......

Game, set, match ..... for the Blobcat as usual

I know for a fact that why some people keep coming back. :D If we were really interested in reading about hockey in a clean, well-mannered forum full of polite posters, we would be somewhere else. But we know that in between the drama, the name-calling, the childish insults and other non-pc banter - there is some of the best hockey talk on the net happening right here.
