Lucky for Gillis Sundin retired before full term was reached. What an awful signing. A 36 year old has been with no knees
He signed for one year and was a force in the playoffs. Brandon Sutter has been a garbage fire for two years and we are stuck with him for four more. Louis Erikson . Lmfao five more years. Fuck he will outlast the NDP

Gillis offered a 2 year -$20 million. LMAO! Lucky for Gillis, Sundin only wanted 1 year

Sorry Dude, but I take the view that the Sundin signing was a great move by MG.

Had Sundin not taken a half-year holiday, he would have been more effective, and year 2 would have been fine under the Canucks salary structure at the time.

He gave up nothing but Aquilini's cash and got a legit #2C. I believe (and perhaps HW can correct me if I'm wrong) that the 2nd year was withdrawn as the process dragged on.

Oh yes I agree. $20 million for a broken down senior citizen, with no knees, who was not even a mere shadow of his former self, is well worth it. Messier 2.0. I could understand if he was s youthful 36'er like Miller with lots of gas still in the tank but no, Sundin was doner than well done. $20 million for 2 years? Holy shitsky

Their contract extensions are not at all comparable. But I'm betting Bo gets a helluvalot more in his second contract than Schneider got for his second. Inflation aside, Bo is FAR FAR more valuable to the Canucks after 3 seasons than Schneider was when he was heading into season 4 with Vancouver.

You aren't seriously suggesting we compare Bo at 22 to Corey at 28, are you?
So you are guaranteeing elite "centre" status for Bo that will put him above the current elite "goalie" asset that Schneider is now?

One has yet to prove eliteness while the other one already has

Are you guaranteeing Bo will be an elite centre?
What has Schneider won as an elite goalie since he was traded?

Besides, Corey wasn't elite when we traded him. He hadn't even played more than 33 games in a season.

I'm not guaranteeing anything with Bo 6 years from now.
Isn't it foolish to be betting Bo will get a bigger 2nd contract while not guaranteeing? Thank gawd you're not my financial advisor

If Schneider was peanuts at the time of the trade then why were the Oilers offering the 7th overall plus and the Devils offered their 9th overall?

Is Scnieder not a top goalie in the NHL? Bo will be lucky to be a top 30 centre
Schneider's second contract was $900K.....so I will guarantee you that Bo gets more than that.

Schneider's 3rd contract was $4M.....so I guarantee you that Bo gets more than that unless its a 2 year contract that Benning forces down his throat, and then will pay for big time later on.

Who said anything about Schneider being peanuts. Get your mouth off the jerrycan Dude. There's a difference between being a top goalie, and an elite goalie. Carey Price is widely regarded to be the best in the world right now. He's won jack shit. Having that elite goaltender and no real centers has helped the Canadiens exit the playoffs over and over.

He was arguably the teams best forward in the playoffs. But by all means keep making shit up. And please continue to defend the Eriksson and Sutter contracts. 10.5 million for 55 points and seven hits. Yuck!! Five more years! Five more years!

And the contract was for 8.6 million prorated and it was one year but hey keep shouting 20 million over and over.

No, it was never withdrawn. For his own personal reasons Sundin chose to take a one year deal.

I'm in the camp that had he come to camp and played the whole season he would have been a force. I also would have been fine had he accepted, and played from day 1, the two year deal. We had the cap so it was just money for two short years.

Sort like where I am with Eriksson, I hate the 6 year deal.

Once again boys, both Gillis and Benning have had their share of bad moves. Something novel, it's not about the general manager per se but about the logistics of the particular move in context of what else was going on with the team. That is a far more interesting debate than the partisan back and forth. All in favour, say aye.
The only HW the Canucks need

Yeah. But I still cringe when I hear that he is talking extension with anyone.....take the pen away from him and bring in an AGM to handle that side of things, one who player agents are scared of.

If you actually watched the games you'd know he drove the second line but you were likely bombed on royal Red
