So Tampa had to give up Gusev a 2nd and a 4th to unload Garrison

Can't take too many picks per year, only so many contracts allowed each year.
Hey, don't forget Benning has added many prospects apart from the draft.
Vegas though had to stock the shelves and the NHL helped them do just that (for $500M)
Of all the expansion teams in NHL history, Vegas was handed the best odds ever.
They hit the jackpot, they were holding all the cards, made out like one-armed bandits...

Though for a team that sorely lacks in push back, Jim did just lose one of the few who do.

Re: Expansion draft
Some might say the Canucks came out well in the expansion draft.
Team gained cap space by sacrificing a depth dman without having to give up picks.

Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Edler just plain played a non physical, uninspired, laid-back, brand of hockey.
It's possible his mobility is hampered, I don't know. He looked lost in space.

Actually, Vegas did well (imo), but it was pretty easy for them to do. They controlled the entire process and every team could only talk to them... kinda like PlayStation trading. Only one guy holding the controller.

Re: Expansion draft
2 things:
1. How the hell did Messier weasel his way into the NHL trophy list (it's particularly appalling that he gets to select the winner)?
2. I thought there was a proposal at one point to add a second Defenseman trophy to reward the truly defensive D-men. The 'all-round' concept generally leans heavily towards scoring. Paul Coffey would never have made a list of finalists for a true defensive award, yet he has multiple Norris trophies.
By the way Per, if the voting included the playoffs, Karlsson would have won the Norris and the Hart, but for regular season it's hard to deny Burns - he had an exceptional year.

Re: Expansion draft
The league certainly did well by their newest expansion club. One wonders if a Canadian expansion club, should Bettman and Co. even deign to grant one where it ever snows at all, would get the same treatment. I wouldn't hold my breath - the New York office knows us Hosers would schlep the dough to watch BS hockey on a shit expansion team, so why bother???Madcombinepilot wrote:Strangelove wrote:So total Vegas picks as of right now in 2017:
