Why the Canucks should avoid a bridge deal with Boeser.
P.K. Subban: misses some of 2012-13, signs two-year, $5.75M deal with Montreal. Then he gets $9M per season for eight years, and traded to Nashville before 2016-17.

Ryan O'Reilly: strenuous negotiations lead to $6M at two years, making things awkward with the likes of Matt Duchene. Now makes $7.5M per year with Buffalo after being traded.

Ryan Johansen: Another Overhardt client whose relationship soured with his team. He was ultimately traded to Nashville, where he makes $8M per year thanks to that new deal.

And now Jacob Trouba: The Winnipeg Jets faced some serious contract impasses with Jacob Trouba and his agent Kurt Overhardt, yet eventually they enjoyed an eye-popping bargain. With the risk of sitting out a season hanging over his head, the RFA leverage was too much for Trouba, who signed for two years and $5 million.
Trouba just scored 50pts this season, and is in line for a nice big fat contract.

Like I've said all along, and not SL  , is sign Boeser LONG term right now.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

HA! Welcome aboard the long-term train. :D

Although the trend these days seems to be toward 6-yr-deals rather than 8-yr-deals.

Image Something is telling me Edler may not be resigned after all.

Haven't heard anything but I do remember Benning saying something about a younger defense.
I did not feel this way at the TD but I think if Alex really wants to stay, there will be no significant
raise and 2 yrs only, no goodies.

Per; I am putting this link up for you to read. I.ve been told it Says Pettersson could do something like Nylander did when the time comes.
But it's bee mentioned too that this reporter doesn't have a good reputation.

It's nothing. They are quoting Benning from an interview with sportsnet, where he said the Canucks have to make sure they can offer both Petey and Hughes contracts they are happy with. It's really nothing, but mentioned alongside the Nylander thingy, so I can see how people may relate the two situations to eachother, but really. It's nothing.

The Canucks have a lot of cap space, Petey seems happy to be where he is. It's nothing.

For Leivo's next contract here are some comparables:

wings: Tyler Bertuzzi: 1.4M x2
ducks: Nick Ritchie: 1.5M x3
bruins: Sean Kuraly: 1.275M x3

On the list of contract extensions and potential free agent signings I would have Leivo's next offer somewhere around the bottom of the list. He's a sporadic complementary player to Brock and Petey, but when slotted into the bottom-6, where he naturally fits, he doesn't bring much.

That's good homework and it sounds right on. He's an RFA so what he wants is to be as sure as he can be, to be with a team that needs him.
And yes, the Canucks need him. He'll play his ass off to attain the best possible reputation and respect for his UFA, "time to cash in days".
Perfect; Just the way we want it...

Yep. He may be an add in to a trade. Slow as molasses and this team is loaded with bottom six fluff, many of whom have big ugly contracts that are tough to move
