Re: The 2017 NHL Entry Draft
My knee-jerk is WTF. A perimeter player. Sounds awesome.
I probably should take some time and let this sit for a while.
Edit: After taking a few breaths, I just hope this was who they felt was the BPA - it sounds to me from the interview with JB that they were more interested in the position rather than BPA - but maybe I misunderstood or heard wrong - if it was the case then I think this was likely a mistake. Give it 2 or 3 years and we will actually be able to judge it as a good or bad pick.

By the time this kid is in the league, the Sedins won't be.

Yup. two years in a row i've had the same reaction. He may turn out to be good but could you not have traded down for even an average asset, and accomplished the same thing?Hockey Widow wrote:Canucks select Pettersson

Gradin pick?
He usually does well compared to the other scouts.

Gaglardi is a total douche - met him in Kamloops one time. He likes to think he's god and his daddy didn't hand him everything.
Pettersson could be awesome if he gains weight - not sure what to think with Vilardi and Glass sitting there. Big gamble, hope they are right.

Benning seems to hate bigger guys that play with any sort of jam. What a joke he's been described as a perimeter player that should work out real good in an NHL playoff series

Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.
Re: The 2017 NHL Entry Draft
Lots of write ups I have seen think Pettersen could end up being the best player in this draft, only time will tell.
Re: The 2017 NHL Entry Draft
Well I am a little surprised. I figured if they coveted Peterssen they would have traded down so just assumed they were going with Glass when they didn't trade. Oh well. Pretty hard to know how this will pan out in the long run.Madcombinepilot wrote:Wow. When they sat there, and Benning was on the phone, I thought we traded down..

Re: The 2017 NHL Entry Draft
Well, just to play devil's advocate... is Glass any more physically mature than Pettersson? I doubt he's ready for the NHL right away.
It seems some GMs feel both have higher upside than Vilardi?
Yeah, Vilardi still hasn't been called...
