Rutherford has now traded Sutter twice. He won both trades in a landslide.

I think the Sutter-Bonino trade was a win for both sides.

Canucks got a player to help through the rebuild and a tradable asset in the last 2 years of his contract.

(we need to keep him until Petterson gets here)

Pens got a more offensive player (allowing them to roll 3 offensive lines) on a cheap contract for 2 years.

WIN-WIN

Both player's contract are what we in the biz call ALL-UFA YEARS contracts.

lol, we've been over this. Was Sutter a UFA when he signed his extension? How many teams were the Canucks bidding against for his services?

You must be in the player agent "biz" with that kind of player-friendly approach to negotiations.

"Hi Brandon, what will you get in one year and when every team can bid for you? Okay, even though we have little reason to, we'll give you that."

Lol that's like if you and I went to the track and I won a grand and you won 10$. You could eat your hotdog and have a glass of draft hopping into your pinto while I rolled out in a bmw on my way to the number 5. But we both won right!!

Yes we've been over this... hence the smiley. :D

Benning/Sutter's-agent's job was to work out the ball-park contract Sutter would be offered in UFAgency.

Twas an ALL-UFA-YEARS contract.... same as Bonino's.

UMMMM... there is EVERY reason to give him that! :scowl:

You give him that or he doesn't sign.

Players deserve... and get... UFA-salary for UFA-years.

Is. Any. Of. This. Getting. Through. :hmmm:

Speaking of which, enter the Dallas Stars - In a perfect world we package Edler up to help with our rebuild, for the last big move this offseason for the rebuilding Canucks.

I keep on circling back to Dallas and their two-three year window to chase the Cup.

I'd offer up Edler (40% retention) = $3M cap hit & Granlund $900k for LD Esa Lindell $2.2m & Brett Ritchie $1.75m.
Alex Edler will probably only accept a western club or a true cup contender to waive his NTC.
Hamhuis will vouch for Dallas to Alex, citing he could have 3 mansions for his one Kits house, sun forever, good to raise the fam' etc. As for "yeah but the owners hate each other", I believe they are stepping back from decisions now and letting the GM's make moves to help their respective teams.

Cap swaps we take on $3.95m they take on $3.9m.

Dallas solidifies their defense as Edler and Klingberg form their #1 pair. Jim Nill citing how he liked what he saw with them on Team Sweden's gold winning team.
Granlund should be able to score 20 there np.

Canucks continue on the rebuild and add some size.

*Soon after I posted this, I recalled we can't retain % anymore so never mind. Max two players per year for salary retention, so this would have to be done after the season is finished when Hansen' contract expires.*

I wish people would stop trying to trade Granlund.
If I had to, I would trade Baertchi before Granlund.
MG is on a very similar road as his brother. Red-light-city...

Yeah I think both players if healthy will have great seasons coming up, they're young vets now entering prime scoring years.

I just think Edler moving on makes sense sometime soon if not by TDD or 2018 offseason, especially when we got Juolevi ready to start his pro career either this year or 2018/19 season.

Edler should net a couple good draft picks, maybe two - 2nd rounders.
Or get a big winger.

At the deadline, when prices are inflated. Possibly to Dallas, as you suggested above.

At the same time, Benning should take his best offer on the Sedins, and if he gets an offer that he believes represents fair value (or even value slightly inflated by the need of actual contenders to load up) for Tanev, he should take that, too. Likewise (per Tanev) for any other player over 25 years old, and likewise (per Sedins) for anyone else on an expiring contract.

Those are my Canucks trade fantasies.

And since we are retained on Luongo and Hansen we only have one retention left this year.
The only HW the Canucks need
