If Gudbranson is a shutdown guy who thrived with Campbell, then he might be a perfect partner for Hutton if the latter continues to develop.

Hamhuis is all but gone at this point.

Until we hear what the reason's were for McCann's internal value dropping like a rock this trade is a tough sell for the hometown faithful. We essentially gave up a "1st", 2nd, and 4th, for Gudbranson and a 5th.....the "1st" and 4th should have been enough.

Our blueline is starting to look harder to go to the boards with at least.

So we'll have edler/Sbisa/Gudbranson/tanev and a rookie tryamkin/pedan on d. The forwards will have to continue to do all of the heavy lifting in the o-zone as the main skill set of everyone except Hutton is chipping the puck into the corner.

Here's some research:

Chris Tanev career high - 20 points
Sbisa career high - 24 points
Gudbranson career high - 13 points
Pedan (ahl) - 21
Biega - 7 points
Edler - 49 points but avging 23.75 over last 4 seasons.

Willie D wants more offense from the back end but this trade only adds to our stable of defensive d-men.

Well I really hope this spells the end of Sbisa here. Maybe we can talk someone into giving up a 4th or a 5th for him. Likely also means Hamhuis is gone. Larsen will probably get a look on the PP.

Edler-Tanev
Hutton-Gudbranson
Tryamkin-Larsen
Pedan-Biega

You missed Larsen... he's all about the offence.

Yep. But I do hear he has a few things on the fire to try and recoup picks. We'll see I guess.

We have goaltending. We have a top four RHS D man. We need a new number one centre to replace Hank.
I like the trade. At least we get a fifth back for the Prust trade

It was a steep price but that's the price for a top four D. He's added Stecker and now Gudbranson to the fold, plus Trymakin last season. I like this move.

He said today he has one D man ranked in the top five and will pick BPA at that pick. My take is that he is eying a foward at 5 but if he's not there then he will pick a D. So wonder who out of Taychook and Dubois he has his eye on.

Besides, when we sign Stamkos we will have no room for McCann

I think they liked McCann but saw him as a little bit of a project, Benning said he thinks he will develop into a top six in a few years. With Gudbranson they get a guy he plans to pair with Hutton. That really knocks Sbisa down to bottom pairing. Or traded perhaps. We have more options now. Out of McCann, Virtanen, Horvat or Hutton, I'd rather lose McCann and in this case the return is very good.
I thought he said a dman in the top 6? I'm almost positive he takes one of Tkachuk or Dubois, and I'm fine with either. Both are better prospects than McCann. The 33rd pick hurts to give up but the rest of it is ok. Gudbranson is a decent defender, good skater but not much offence and makes some dumb decisions. He should be a solid partner for Hutton though and wil, give us a serviceable top 4. Now let's just hope Jimbo doesn't sign him to a long-term above market deal to try and justify the trade, like he did with Sbisa and Sutter.

Take a good forward with the pick, sign a veteran forward for the top 6 and this team might even be able to compete next year. It won't be very good and given Benning'slove of trading picks the farm system won't get much better, but perhaps we will sneak into a playoff spot.

I can't say I love the plan so far - stay competitive while rebuilding - but I'm willing to see what happens over the next 5 or 6 weeks before making a decision on how the offseason went.

HW, what are you hearing about getting more picks? Will be tough to do with the assets they have currently but I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

Indeed I did forget about him. I do hope his skills translate to NHL. I really want this trade to work I'm just hugely skeptical.

I think they'll try to waive Biega down (first callup).

I could see Piano/Larsen subbing in/out on the last pairing.

EDIT: I want Hamhuis back see

Yeah, hopefully.

Edler still produces points at pretty much the same pace btw.

(he's just missed a lot of games to injury the past few seasons)

Mitchell the former Canuck doesn't like this trade, and he's played by Guds, knows him well..

Miller/Markstrom are like fuck yeah, get some much needed help in front of em finally.
