Why do we even need Gudbranson when we have Sbisa???

On the serious side, I like the improvement on D but don't like losing out on draft picks.

There's been a lot of talk about a bad attitude.

From before the 2014 draft... til present day.

But who gives a fuck... OMG we just got Gudbranson!!! Image
Team Canada Hockey once said they would never invite McCann back to international play after some off ice incident or attitude problem that came about at the World Under 18 tournament he played in.

Quick gut-take is that the trade feels more or less equal in value.

But we've been talking for a very long time about the need for a physical top pairing defenseman, and about our abundance of B+ young talent up front.

Soooo.. good job. An important need has been addressed by dealing from a position of strength. Also, the old rule of thumb that "the team getting the best player wins the trade" falls our way, which is nice. Trading quantity for quality is usually a good idea.

Bonus marks would've been assigned for larceny, but an even trade can still be a good trade.

I'll bet The Benning has a plan in place for more picks.

I'll also bet his buddy Chiarelli told him the Oil are grabbing the winger Tkachuk

.... meaning Canucks will get the centre Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Hope you are right. While I might not appreciate the "genius" of JB in all areas, I definitely do appreciate his drafting and would like him to have enough picks to continue to show his strong skillset in that area.

Anybody have a good rundown of Gudbranson? I haven't watched him play all that much but remember the hype around him when he was drafted and the current scouting reports seem pretty positive.

I dunno if I'd go that far Lloyd. Gudbranson was a 4 for Florida, if you're expecting at top-pairing guy you might be disappointed. He's a big, shutdown dman, but apparently was heavily supported by Campbell this past season. I guess the fancy stats aren't too good, but that's hardly surprising for a shut-down, defensive d-man.

As for best player in the deal, yeah right now it's obviously Gudbranson. McCann turns 20 in 6 days. 33 overall will be a solid prospect. It's a stiff price to pay for a shut-down dman. That being said, I like what Gudbranson brings, but we shouldn't get expectations too high. Solid, second pairing guy that makes life tough on opponents. Nice add, but pricey.

LOL I knew you'd like this, and here I figured the Panthers would never let their "future captain" slip away...

This one's for you Skyo

Aaron Ekblad isn't going anywhere.

Gudbranson has been a disappointment for a #3 pick. At worst he's a slightly bigger and better Shane O'brien. At best he's a slightly better Luca Sbisa.

He was a 3 (at 23-24 years of age).

He still has top-pairing potential.

Did I mention he's an ASSHOLE. Image

Ummm YEAH.

Do you think we'd be getting him at this price if he wasn't a disappointment for a #3 overall?

Do you think he'd be available AT ALL if he wasn't a disappointment for a #3 overall?
