I wonder if the provinces might push for a Canadian bubble or some kind of hybrid bubble?

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Some new key dates: Opt-out deadline is Dec. 24 for non-playoff teams, Dec. 27 for playoff teams. Group II RFAs must be signed by Feb. 11 to play this season (usually Dec. 1). And, players on one-year deals can extend on March 12 (usually Jan. 1).

So no Trymankin this season, which is fine. we won't have to waste a protection spot for him for the ED.

NHL also saying that moving a team to a non NHL building is a non starter. There are issues with camera placements and other infrastructure needed to have video reviews and other such things. Makes sense. Seems to me that the Canucks should simply double up with another team unless and until they are cleared to play again in Vancouver. Which could happened April, May or June.

But I am also hearing that Neither Quebec nor Ontario are all too keen on travel into their provinces right now. It is also political. Tell the citizens to lock down all except essential services yet let athletes travel freely within the country. Will be interesting to hear what the joint statement is.

Chris Johnston @reporterchris
In the event a NHL team has to temporarily relocate this season, players are entitled to a hotel room for them and their family; rental car and parking; and per diem even while at "home."

If relocation lasts more than 28 days, additional benefits will be negotiated.

based upon zero scientific evidence the NHL should bubble the teams for January and February and see how March goes. Take it month by month and hopefully with the vaccine and other factors the numbers start going down to the point where teams can play out of their own arenas (without fans).

I think Dallas plans to start with 5,000 fans in the building and proceed from there. Not sure what other teams are thinking yet but I believe a lot of US franchises plan to have some fans in the building from the beginning.

The upper bowl of an NHL arena might be a good place to develop herd immunity when you think about it...

We play the Oilers twice on Jan 13. Once in Vancouver and once in Edmonton. That should be interesting.

She won't budge, it's her military training. Dix reiterated it the other day, BC isn't bending the rules.

It has to be pissing off the billionaires where are used to long established procedures and freedom to do what they please within those guidelines. They know it is a PR nightmare to flout the rules and receive exemptions. From day one the mantras have been "we're all in this together" and "bend the curve, not the rules".

Many of the US owners likely have a tough time understanding the plight of the Canadian owners.

Darren Dreger
@DarrenDreger
Sources say the 5 provinces have requested additional testing procedures, or have asked the NHL to consider a “bubble” model. If bubble isn’t an option for NHL, sources say a delay to start of season has also been suggested. The NHL is working on a response. Ongoing discussions.
