Because his Columbus salary is less than his Vancouver salary was, Vancouver pays the difference between what the Canucks salary was and what Columbus pays him.

As Topper pointed out, Aqua is only paying the difference between what Canucks were paying Torts ($2M-per)
... and whatever Columbus is paying him.
As for EXGMMG, the rumour was that there was a buyout clause in his contract ($1.6M?).
Regardless, Aqua is rolling in the green stuff and it ain't like this is a Babcockian contract.

One of the "issues" that has been rumoured to be a factor for Stamkos in Tampa has been that he doesn't like to play wing, and that's where Cooper put him. I think anywhere he signs outside of The Bay is going to include some assurances that he is a centre.
I could see him agreeing to being the the guy on the LW on a PP unit with Henrik and Daniel though.....
