*LOL*

Says the guy who wanted to buy out Luongo.
Ummm... wut? :eh:

Talk about "out of left field"....

Yes, buying out Luongo (Compliance Buyout) would've been the right move.

We're still facing that relentless Recapture Monster one day.

I was one of the first to laugh at Doc when he suggested we should buy out Luongo. I still had faith MG could have traded him before the new CBA. I'm not laughing now. Doc was right. Notwithstanding we have Markstrom to show for the trade, we could have kept Lack, we stand to be in a piss of hurt should Luongo stop playing before that deal is up.

The only way I can see Luongo sticking around until he is 43 years old is if Florida's young forwards pan out, and they can bolster their blueline slightly. His numbers last year were as good as they have ever been outside of 2010-11 with Vancouver, the team in front of him just couldn't find ways to win the close games. He was still above .500, but they managed to lose 12 games in OT or the S/O.

If the Panthers aren't in the playoffs this season, and looking like up and coming contenders over the following 2 seasons, Louie will probably pull the pin by 39. Any regression in his game will probably have the Panthers looking to move him to another team (likely one trying to get to the cap floor) as they are going to need cap space for the likes of Barkov, Huberdeau, Ekblad, and at least 2nd line money for guys like Bjugstad.

Maybe the best we can hope for is that the Panthers trade him to a bottom feeder needing to add to their cap, and he refuses to report. The team suspends him, he doesn't retire, and everyone is happy. (Or would that kind of "suspension" result in him coming off of the payroll?)

Off the payroll: Yes.

But the Recapture Monster would demand his due. Image

Is there any scenario in which Luongo could "retire" and the Canucks NOT be nailed by the recapture monster?

(note the quotations on retire)

NONE

"retire"

Well we could pray for him to become permanently partially disabled a la Pronger, but it's gotta be real...

Yeah, we're pretty well screwed here in a few years by that one.

Hopefully Benning doesn't blow his brains out on anyone the way he did with Sbisa.

sigh spilled milk...

still think we got the raw end of that deal in the CBA.
luongo recapture should have been grandfathered... front loading and spreading out the cap was legal at the time and was part of the old CBA

but anyway, whats the recapture actually going to cost us if he retires early a utility contract?

If he retires with one year left on the contract, Canucks get hit with a one-year $8.5M Recapture penalty.

just spitballin'.....

what if the Canucks acquired his rights.........for Vey and Sbisa......., demote him to the ECHL and suspend him for not reporting, or if he does report, pay his measly salary and take the average annual cap hit
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Just hope he retires in 2019. A $2.8M penalty for 3 years isn't completely terrifying. If he retires in 2020 it's a $4M hit for 2 years. Retiring in 2021 smacks us with an $8M, 1-year cap-hit. I'm thinking those are the years we'll want to maximize cap space too.

Who knows, maybe he just hangs around the Panthers, helping them get to the floor as a backup until his deal is done.

If he retires after this season or next, it wouldn't be so bad, as his 800K in retained salary comes off the books, while a 1.4M (7 years if he retires after this season) - 1.7M recapture penalty (6 years if he retires after next) comes on.
