Picks? We had the 23rd last season.Island Nucklehead wrote:Hehe I'm not sure how "on the fly" being bad enough for top-5 picks is. At this point we might as well just call it rebuilding, and everyone is on board with that.
One year can be chalked up to an anomaly.

Given our recent history I'd say last year was the anomaly.Aaronp18 wrote:Picks? We had the 23rd last season.Island Nucklehead wrote:Hehe I'm not sure how "on the fly" being bad enough for top-5 picks is. At this point we might as well just call it rebuilding, and everyone is on board with that.

Re: 2016 NHL ENTRY DRAFT
Anomaly? The Benning era is two years old. Finishing 6th worst in the league (the Virtanen draft) was a result of the Mike Gillis campaign. Would have Gillis drafted Demko and Tryamkin? Highly doubt it, knowing how much suckage Gillis was at drafting. Bennings first year was the Boeser draft ( Great draft pick btw) . An argument can be made for this year as being an anomaly to Bennings only other year (the Boeser draft year) due to the excessive of amount of injuries to key players all season. But in reality Benning hasn't been here long enough to know what he anomaly. is. I guess he's one for one in his two campaigns, boy does he suck.
“Tyler Myers is my guy... I was taking to Scotty Bowman last night and he was bringing up his name, and saying he’s a big guy and big guy need big minutes to play, he is playing great for ya… and I agree with him… He’s been exceptional” - Bruce Boudreau

Nice stats. Your point is what?Aaronp18 wrote:He did, but it was the age of the roster heading into the season. Which is great but not the entire picture, we all know injuries happen and in getting younger we are replacing injuries with prospects instead of the journeyman NHLers.Strangelove wrote: Yes twas indeed Negative Nucklehead who has noted (a few times) the average age has gone up.
Taking a look at the average age of players that played 10 game or more in the 2013/14 season and the 2015/16 season I came up with these numbers:2013/14 (29 players)
Nicklas Jensen 20
Frank Corrado 20
Jordan Schroeder 23
Zack Kassian 23
Darren Archibald 23
Chris Tanev 24
Ryan Stanton 24
Zac Dalpe 24
Jeremy Welsh 25
Dale Weise 25
Yannick Weber 25
Shawn Matthias 25
Tom Sestito 26
Eddie Lack 26
Jannik Hansen 27
Alexander Edler 27
Mike Santorelli 28
Brad Richardson 28
Ryan Kesler 29
Jason Garrison 29
David Booth 29
Chris Higgins 30
Dan Hamhuis 31
Alexandre Burrows 32
Kevin Bieksa 32
Andrew Alberts 32
Henrik Sedin (C) 33
Daniel Sedin 33
Roberto Luongo 34
Avg age - 27.13793103I think I got this right, cutting and pasting between spreadsheets and websites sometimes causes something to go askew.2015/16 (30 players)
Jake Virtanen 19
Jared McCann 19
Bo Horvat 20
Nikita Tryamkin 21
Brendan Gaunce 21
Ben Hutton 22
Markus Granlund 22
Emerson Etem 23
Sven Baertschi 23
Linden Vey 24
Chris Tanev 26
Brandon Sutter 26
Luca Sbisa 26
Jacob Markstrom 26
Yannick Weber 27
Taylor Fedun 27
Alex Biega 27
Matt Bartkowski 27
Jannik Hansen 29
Alexander Edler 29
Derek Dorsett 29
Adam Cracknell 30
Brandon Prust 31
Chris Higgins 32
Dan Hamhuis 33
Radim Vrbata 34
Alexandre Burrows 34
Henrik Sedin (C) 35
Daniel Sedin 35
Ryan Miller 35
Avg age - 27.06666667
So one can expand the stats to show we are getting younger because despite much of our core getting older by 2 years we have slightly lowered the average age of the players that play 10 games or more in the regular season.

Re: 2016 NHL ENTRY DRAFT
The Canucks haven't gone from one of the oldest teams in the league to one of the youngest. They've gone from (weighted age) 10th-oldest team in the league to 8th-oldest, which was the original point.Topper wrote:IN continues to talk out his ass.Overtime wrote:Nice stats. Your point is what?
If you forget the weighted age the Canucks were below NHL average in 2013/14, and the 12-youngest team in the league.

When the twins retire, our average age will drop by about 2 years. The average(mean) might not have moved mathematically, but the median and mode have shifted down.Topper wrote:TurnoverAaronp18 wrote: 2013/14 (29 players)

Re: 2016 NHL ENTRY DRAFT
Not to mention the 2015-16 list includes already turfed Adam Cracknell who is 30 and the all but definite departures of Brandon Prust 31, Chris Higgins 32, Radim Vrbata 34 this season. Depending what Dan Hamhuis 33 wants he could be gone as well. And as an outsider Burrows 34, who if he can be moved I think would be.Tciso wrote: When the twins retire, our average age will drop by about 2 years. And next year Ryan Miller 35.
These departures will of course compensate the fact that everyone coming back will be 1 year older. Of the guys leaving really only one under the mean age I don't see coming back in Linden Vey.
Stecher will get a shot to make the team, and in all likelihood our 1st rounder this season. Not to mention perhaps a couple other college free agents, crosses fingers.
It's a progression to youth, slowly but surely!
In case you were still wondering Overtime, this is part of the fucking point.

This thread is now akin to how many angels dance on the head of a pin. I did not know I was involved in a site dominated by old rabbis.
Re: 2016 NHL ENTRY DRAFT
Teams to make deals with to drop down a couple spots: #7 Coyotes, #8 Sabres, #9 Canadiens, #10Avalanche.
Yotes or Flames would highly be interested in Tkachuk imo.
If PLD is taken, I bet JB see's if flamers/Yotes are interested in moving up to take Tkachuk.
Probably could land another 2nd rounder and then we take Juolevi.
I mean the flames will have at least two second rounders, maybe 3 if the stars lose to the blues.

Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Re: 2016 NHL ENTRY DRAFT
I wonder what the return would be to drop down a couple spots. I think the Oilers could very well take Juolevi at 4. If Benning isn't sold on Tkachuk or Dubois, maybe he's thinking Chychrun or Sergachev. Would Arizona do 7 and 37 overall to move up 3 spots?SKYO wrote:Teams to make deals with to drop down a couple spots: #7 Coyotes, #8 Sabres, #9 Canadiens, #10Avalanche.
