Yes we are. I totally agree. We seem to be in "National Enquirer mode" ; "Everyone seems to be grabbing for branches , as we fall, to lighten the pain. If I may quote F. Nietzche: "One must have chaos upon oneself to give birth to a dancing star".

We have never been through a modern day tank before.
I for one admit I don't handle it well.
I think grasping for something positive is good for the soul....

The big question, who does Jimbo draft if picking 4th overall? Tough choice between Chychrun and Tkachuk. Tkachuk is in beast mode in the playoffs right now and a lot more scouts are saying Juolevi has surpassed Chychrun. Always concerning seeing high ranked players dropping. At beginning of the year - Chychrun was ranked 2nd on most scouts lists.

It has to be Tkachuk at 4.

Why not Dubois at 4? I don't think Elmer could go too far wrong with any of Tkachuck , Dubois or Chychrun.

I'd prefer a top three pick though as those players are a cut above. I wouldn't be devastated picking at 4 or 5 but I could see Elmer picking Juolevi which would piss me off.

Laine or Mathews please.

I want Austin Matthews and if we continue our current managed tank we are going to get a shot at him. However, we have never had a #1 pick in all our history. The Tallon curse is chomping its mouth and if that is not bad enough the NHL hates us.

How is it we are going to be dead last (most likely) the one time they use this new format? I have a theory. I believe if one lives in Vancouver, they are already blessed by God and asking for a cup is simply too much. Would any of you move to Calgary, Edmonton or anywhere else in Canada to have a cup-winning team? I would not so I am stuck with a great city to have spent more than half my life in and a hockey team that every now and then goes to the Finals and loses.

This is the same reason the Coil win so many lotteries. They have talent but their city sucks the foot long. See? Easy to figure out. However, I will say if the Coil wins this lottery there should be an investigation. No wonder Canadian hockey is going to shit. All our best end up in Edmonton where they die under the watch of Lowe, etc.

The top pick will be nice and is absolutely the most significant aspect of the draft but it's handy to be drafting at (or near) the top of every other round as well.

Basically the difference between the 2016 draft and say the 2011 draft for this team is like trading their 7th rounder for a top 5 pick.

ie. (to just arbitrarily choose a number) 3, 33, 63, 93, 123, 153, 183 vs 29, 59, 89, 119, 149, 179, 209 - italicized picks being more or less equivalent.

Jimbo had better make hay with this advantage because the team is unlikely to be this bad again, I hope..

Agreed dbr. I could stomach one more year of misery, as long as I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Benning has to have a good draft and so far he has seemed to have done ok.

So while I could stomach one more year, I would love to get Matthews and see us in the playoffs again next year. I don't think anyone else in the draft is NHL ready, or at least has the POTENTIAL to be an impact right away.

That's not near the misery we have endured this year.
Eke into the playoffs next year?
I'll take that, yes indeed

Matthews I understand, but a couple of wingers, a case could be said OEL and/or Jones would be way better to have to grow with/for your team.
How do you feel about Tkachuck?

Tkachuk would be decent, he's a more offensively talented Virtanen clone, as in he can read plays better, score+pass and is the intense, rugged heart/soul type like The Hitman.

C - Dubois, D - Chychrun, LW - Tkachuk are the new "Ehlers/Nylander/Virtanen" after the solidified top 3 in this draft.

Still hope we land top 3.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Me too! I just can't imagine how totally off the wall those last 2 back to backs with the pro tankers are gonna be.
What might it come to: Accidently putting a puck in your own goal'
Wonder what kind of reprimand the league would have for that one :?:

Christ blobby, you don't like OEL or Seth Jones?
I love OEL. The fact is he is seven years older than anyone we would get with a top three pick and he is going to be pushing 30 by the time this team is competitive. He is a ufa in three years and how long will it take him to see how poor the hockey team is and what a dog and pony show the management team is. He will bolt to a good team.
As said prior AZ won't give up OEL, but they seem really motivated to get Matthews!!
Ryan McKenna of Sportsnet : Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 590 on the Coyotes trying to make a run at Auston Matthews even if they don’t win the draft lottery. “I think the Coyotes, I’m sure, that if they don’t win the lottery, they will call the team that wins and say what can we do here,” said Friedman. “I don’t think they would do Ekman-Larsson, but if I was running the Coyotes, I might do anything else.Matthews is from Scottsdale and it could be a huge selling point. “I think you could make that argument that he is more valuable there than anywhere else,” said Friedman. “Don’t forget also, they’re trying to get a new arena built out there, whether it’s at Arizona State, whether it’s part of the Native lands on the casino, whether it’s downtown Phoenix, they’re trying to get something done. They have to stabilize their future.”
So wonder if they'd offer Strome plus their 1st (which could be top 8) for 1st overall with a couple other throw-ins to even it out a tad.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Unfortunately, IMHO, if we win the lottery we really are not in a position to pass on a potential franchise centre. I mean sure there are deals but we need a Hank replacement in a bad way. Now if we had the 2nd or 3rd with Columbus I could get behind giving up a future star winger for Seth Jones.

I suppose if Arrizona offered up something mighty mighty crazy we'd have to look but to me it would have to be insane.

If we win the lottery.....

To AZ: 1st 2016 + Higgins + Vey

To VAN: 1st 2016 + Strome + Duclair + Stone

Edit: I'm saying that would be the kind of mighty mighty crazy deal it would take.
