Vey stood out to me in games versus the Kings last year, I'm really hoping we found a gem here that LA just couldn't afford to keep.

I like his size, we definitely could use some muscle in the backend, especially with Fat Alberts gone. Stewart is obviously at least a couple years away to being close and he didn't fare too well in a scrap in the tourny, but hopefully he'll develop into a mean and nasty, solid stay at home D-man.

If Mallet doesn't have an excellent camp, will he be released to make room to sign Valk or Lotz? Anybody know how close we are to the 50 contract maximum?

It's only the second day of camp, and it looks like the opening night lineup is already set! :P

You don't have Vey in there.

I'm going with

Sedin/Sedin/Vrbata
Burrows/Bonino/Kassian
Higgins/Vey/Hansen
Mathias/Richardson/Dorsett
Horvat or Sestito

If Horvat stays it will be at the minimum 9 games and they will try him in a few spots.
The only HW the Canucks need

They've already penciled Vey in, but my guess is they want to give Horvat a good look.

Agreed, I assume one of the Hansen, Matthias, Richardson or Sestito will be moved if Horvat indeed makes the team.

I don't see Benning as a guy who is in a big hurry to bring in a junior eligible rookie, that would most likely play a bottom six role and have little impact in the team's fortunes vis a vis the playoffs.

I'm sure Canucks nation will be up in arms if Horvat doesn't make the team, though.

Why oh why do so many fans want rookies in the line-up regardless of whether or not they deserve to be? OF COURSE Horvat should make the team if he displaces an established vet. Having useful players on their ELC in the line-up is terrific for cap management. But so many fans want a shiny new bauble in the line-up regardless of whether or not they are ready and regardless of whether or not it makes the team worse.

This squad has NHL quality depth. Having Bo Horvat spend a final year in Junior playing huge minutes in all situations and perhaps truly establishing his offensive game is NOT a bad thing.

There's a dude named LaFranchise at camp?

Seriously, for a second there I thought I was in the future and we drafted McDavid.

Just hope that Benning's decision would not be affected by the "UPPER" management, like in some other cases...

But...but...change is coming? That's what they said on the radio so it must be true!
