Toona ffs you will always be wrong get used to it.
Torontonians are born wrong.
Hey Tuna, don't forget I'm cheering for Nylander and Marner to stay healthy and put up points this year
... sign massive contracts and then
... mwahahahahahahahaha
Cap going up 5-7 million. Thank you Vegas.
The leaves are fine.
Wrong!!!
For Toronto, building through the draft will play an even bigger role in the upcoming seasons than it ever has before. In 2018-19, they’ll really need to find some late round gem no one saw coming, or some other Zaitsev if they have any chance at becoming defensively sound and staying that way over the next few years. The Maple leaves need their own Henrik Zetterberg, or Radim Vrbata, or Joe Pavelski or Ondrej Palat – so if their scouting department doesn’t come through, they could find themselves in trouble soon.
After Nylander, Matthews, Marner and Gardiner are paid for, there’s still the issue of van Riemsdyk, Bozak, Komarov and Moore. And don’t forget about Josh Leivo, Roman Polak, Ron Hainsey, Andreas Borgman and Connor Carrick. Then there’s the possibility of prospects cracking the roster — although they’ll each get a maximum of $925,000 per year. There’s still another nine leaves to take into consideration and offer contracts to and assuming these first-round picks aren’t traded, there could be about $10-$12 million remaining in the salary cap for everyone else.

LOL What? They have more depth than any team, why do they need to get a Zetterberg?
Matthews/Marner/Kadri/Nylander/Kapanen/Marleau/Johnson/Brown.
Remind me why they need to draft a superstar forward? Do you feel this way about any other team? Because statistically, the leaves are as deep as anyone.
And no one is worried about Komorov or More. They are depth pieces. There are UFAs in September for just as cheap available. Stop actimng like the leaves are the only team with UFAs. Many of those listed aren't even good. The leaves need guys gone so someone like Kapanen can get more minutes (No business on the 4th line).
Your points are nonsense. The leaves are fine without guys like Carrick, Leivo and More. It's ridiculous you bring up things that all 31 organizations face every offseason.
The leaves have already gotten help just this year from their scouting from the Marlies and will continue to.

These points were written by hockey writers not me
They already have their late round gems. They have a 7th rounder on their team who is an AHL all-star playing great in his first week with the leaves.
JVR is goners. I predicted this on this site a year ago. Too one-dimensional and too expensive. He's a PP specialist and 3rd liner 5 on 5. The good news? Kapenen has no business on the 4th line and can easily get 20-30 goals with more ice-time.
It's just odd someone would say (Not you) they need to draft a late round superstar. Why? They have more 30 and 40 point forwards than any team? Does Boston, Tampa, Nashville need that as well? No. No one will say that. Boston has basically 1 line scoring for them. They need that.
The leaves are stacked and in fantastic shape. All Marner/Matthews/Nylander will be signed.
A contender with bigger cap issues is Tampa. Take a look at who they have to sign in the next year.
As is now becoming clear, Laine is better than Mathews ! I knew this from the beginning.
More of a Captain type guy too.
You have "ONE" kick at the can, this year.
By next year, it all starts to go back to shitsville again and eventually, Mathews will get a move to the US which is where his heart is.
Have fun!

Matthews is scoring at a 0.94 ppg this year and he has minimal veteran help on his team, next to none on his line.
Laine is scoring at a 0.92 ppg this year and is playing with guys like Wheeler.
Laine has also gone on an 18 game tear. Before that he was scoring at a 0.77 ppg pace.
I have no idea where this Laine is clearly better than Matthews idea is coming from.

And Matthews is a centre AND is definitely better overall.
Matthews has more 5 on 5 goals than any NHl player since he entered the NHl. More than Ovechkin, Kucherov. You name it.
And Marner has 60 points with 16:08 TOI. Fantastic.

All that should help him land a monster contract!
Too bad he's made of glass...
So give me a prediction, who do the leaves trade this offseason because they have no money? You predicted it last year and it never happened. Did it?

Yeahno, I said it "would be the wise thing to do" last off-season, for a couple of reasons.
But they didn't and now they're going to have bonuses from this season attached to next season's cap...
They won't have to "trade" anyone this off-season because they will likely let guys like JVR, Bozo, Komarov, and Plecanec walk.
Will they be a better team... or a worse team... without those guys?
The cap crunch will come in 2019 when the new Matthews/Marner contracts kick in.
