Haven't you heard, the Leaves have always been one the most hated teams in the wide world of sports!

We went to the finals in 82 we beat the Flames as a kid it was the first time i seen a series Playoff Victory lost to the Flames in 83 and 84 which Got Roger Neilson fired... Didn't make the Play'offs again til 86 where we got lit up by Gretzky & Co... Didn't make the playoffs til 89 finished 43 Points behind the Flames and played one of the best game 7s in playoff history only more heartbreaking loss was 94 Rangers ... The Parallels between 89 and 94 are EERY vs Calgary I have seen Cooke Score to save our season with jovo going crazy in the box and then Gelinas End us I've seen Ferlund run around Ive seen Torts lose his shit I've seen Bench Clearing Brawls in the early 80s,Pat Quinn wanting to Kill Harvey the Hound for Running over a Canuck Jersey at Center Ice with a toy Zamboni... I hate that team with every fiber of my being & those are some of the reasons...

As far as the Leafs are concerned, when I was a kid there was ONE TEAM in this country that Moved the Needle... Danny Gallivan Dick Irvin Larry Robinson after a shift on the bench with a towel draped over his shoulder Lemaire Shutt Lafleur Dryden lapointe Mondu I remember his eye Injury Risebrough, Trembley, Houle, Savard, Gainey, The Forum, that song they used to play during stoppages ...

Oh the Memories...
Every year Habs vs Bruins they won every year they lost 8 games one season... I could name you more players off the top of my head off of the Habs roster from 77-81 ish than I could name leafs from the same time period... Cause as the 80s got going the Leafs SUCKED... They were not relevant when the Leafs came out west throughout the 80s it wasn't a hot ticket cause NOBODY gave two shits but when the Habs showed up the PNE was Half full of Habs fans...

They got good in the early 90s but we were Better and we beat them in 94 and then they fell off the earth til Quinn showed up and then he left and they struggled til now... Playing Toronto ONCE in the post season and beating them I just don't get the hatred compared to The Flames who have ended our season, battled with, fought with, chirped with, in the same division since 1980...

I will say this about them, they probably have a two year window before they have to start paying some guys but until then if they stay healthy Their are not 3 teams in that conference better than them... 7 game series they could beat Caps this yr a Sens,Rangers,Habs,Bruins Blue Jackets Not sure bout the Pens but everybody else thats not exactly a scary collection of hockey teams...

In my lifetime I never thought I would see a Cubs team win a world Series Red Sox win Multiple, A Cleveland team win Something, teams come back from 3-0 down teams.... The Leafs seem to be the next domino to fall... Black Hawks Cubs Bruins Rangers Red Sox, Cavs, Bucaneers , Saints just hope u can Survive it Doc u seem to have a lot invested in their failure which I don't get but whatever floats your boat... Cause they have good players and Play in a hella weak conference...

^ Great post Paddy!

(except for the Leaves eventually winning part of course)

I'm willing to admit my epic hatred of the Leaves might not be 100% rational.

(though I can list many reasons)

But it is a mighty, eternal hatred indeed.

Yes I know of all the reasons we have for hating the Flames

... but I cheer for them with a passion when they play the Leaves.

Are you really sure Tim Liljegren is not a household name? Ironic a guy whining about the Leafs not drafting an unknown 3rd rounder is going on about Liljegren being nothing.

The playoff experience was well worth a second rounder. It's not like this team desperately needs prospects. LOL. What will they do, draft another forward?

Lots and lots of experience now, EH

Funny how you find that comment so interesting...

Matthews/Marner/Nylander/Kadri/JVR/Marleau/Brown

Did you know the Leafs had the most 50 point AND 60 point players in the entire NHl last season?
Like I said, best depth. They were 6th in GF with all those rookies and now they added Marleau. Please tell, who is better?

So the Leafs do not have a steady influx of prospects? LOL, Are you serious? They just had the best crop of rookies of any NHl team in 36 years. No team since Quebec in 1981 has had 3 rookies score 60+ points.

WTF. Those rookies from last season are 19, 20 and 20.. You're acting like they have peaked and are old. Honestly, do you even watch NHL hockey? The Leafs kept their 1st round pick and got an elite puck mover. How did they not get prospects? You go on and on about not enough picks in rounds 2 nd 3, yet guys picked in those rounds by the Leafs you claim are terrible in past years (Dermot, Nielson, ETC) and then you dismiss the 1st round pick.

Not to mention, guys like Bracco, Dermotand Brooks had great seasons, and Kapanen will actually get a chance to play next season. You're making an odd attempt to say the Leafs are old and have no prospects. I know you're doing a "Schtick", but does it worry you others will think you know less about hockey than their grandmothers?

Hockey is played on ice and is 60 minutes long.

They'll be dumping JVR who scored about the same as Marleau, so they'd break even except for the facts

... teams will have the kids figured out

... Leaves will face more Number Ones rather than all those backups they saw last year

... and no way do they get as lucky in the Injury Department next season.

FYI your Leaves also gave up a helluva lotta goals, that's an important part of the game of hockey...

Please don't live in some parallel universe where JVR has been traded. he is on the team. They have the best depth of forwards in the NHL.

And injuries, blah, blah, blah. Did you know the Leafs had the worst Shootout record in the entire NHL last season? Do you expect that to occur yearly?
The Leafs were 6th in least amount of games lost due to injuries. Good stat, but far from the luckiest.
