The Official Dave Ayres CC "All Thing Leaves" thread

Post by Cornuck »

Ok - since there seems to be an interest in talking about the Leaves and their star players, I'm going to suggest strongly infer insist that we keep it in one thread.

Mëds and TunaFish can continue their epic debate on the Kessell question here.

Other topics might include:

"Can they make the playoffs 2 years in a row?"

"Is this the year that Mason Raymond breaks out?"

"Who will win the epic battle to start in goal for the Leaves this year?"

"If Toronto didn't have an NHL franchise, would Air Canada Center still sell out?"
Doc: "BTW, Donny was right, you're smug."

Phil Kessel believes the Toronto Maple leaves are well-positioned to avoid the late-season tailspin that cost them a playoff spot last spring.

"I think we had a good team," Kessel said after a ball-hockey game on centre court at Rexall Centre, site of the Rogers Cup. "We were there last year. We had a bad stretch.

"We don’t have that stretch, we’re right in it. This year we made some good additions and I think we improved as a team, and we’re going to be ready to go."

Kessel, who tweeted a photo of himself playing ball hockey with tennis legend Roger Federer, said the difference to preventing a major losing skid is just finding a way to win close games.

"We’ve got to be prepared for the long season, and we won’t go through one of those again," Kessel said.
Yeeeeessss Phil, all those advanced stats folks who predicted (yet another) collapse were wrong!

Everything is fine, it's a good team that ran into a little bad luck.

Smooth sailing bro, just keep on keeping on!

OINK OINK, $8m buys a lot of Twinkies!!!

I'm a little worried the Leaves will be right up there in the McDavid sweepstakes however.

I think the Shanahanplan is to suck severely this season (is he sending Phat Phil boxes of donuts?)

... draft high in the Big One, fire Carlyle & Nonis, and let half the team walk as UFAs

(well that last one will happen regardless).

Seriously, the Leaves are no better than last year and are unlikely to have as much early-season luck.

I'm cheering for them to make the playoffs and then get massacred in the first round.

But yeah no, they ain't making the playoffs.

So I'm cheering for them to draft the wrong guy in 2015.

If Bernier had not been hurt I think they would have made the playoffs. The problem is they have absolutely destroyed Reimer and have lost confidence in him. Should he be called upon again to play a significant number of games they are toast.

Do they have more than new centre this year? Can't seem to see where they have fixed that. Was Dianna traded yet? Can't seem to see where they have fixed that.
The only HW the Canucks need

So hard, and I'm so happy they don't have 22 year old, point per game center, Tyler Seguin.

LOL....OK.

Seguin has youth and upside. Seguin is one of the most gifted young players in the game who helped propel Jamie Benn to elite level status.

A quote that is pure sarcasm that was originally posted by one of the regulars here.

And BTW, Phil Kessel is 26 and hasn't missed a game in years.
