Even in death, sports can be very cruel. An ode to the Toronto Maple Leaves, in the last line of a man's obituary.

Yeah, you would think the Leaves want to trade a guy who made it clear he wants out.

A guy who hates the coach.

But Nonuts is dealing from a position of weakness due to the fact everyone knows this.

Also, there are only a few teams that might be open to a 1A/1B situation

... which is what it would have to be given Reimer's ability/salary/question-marks.

Sending him home to Winnipeg makes sense, given Pavelec's limitations (for a draft pic?).

Buffalo might wanna trade Enroth/Neuvirth (UFAs next yr) for Reimer (but wait, they want to suck for McD).

I could see Calgary (Burke) offer Ramo straight up for Reimer

… Leaves end up with a worse backup but lose the Reimer distraction

…. Calgary with Hiller and Reimer in a 1A/1B situation.

To Edmonton for Fasth?... Reimer reunited with his good pal Scrivens?

Looking around the league, I only see these 4 possibilities.

But yeah, hard to say if any of these teams would be into it.

Personally I hope the Leaves are stuck with him and all the controversy of dat dere. :mex:

Can't believe I forgot Kadri on that list!

(must've had a Clarkson moment)

Dunno if folks noticed Kadri taking cheap shots on some of the tougher vets in his first hundred games.

He toned it down somewhat last season, but these guys have long memories and are making him pay.

That punk-ass style of play goes hand in hand with some of his punk-ass comments:

And then there was this...

There are reasons why the Leaves are trying to trade this moron...

That might make the most sense of any scenario I've read. Why not give Pavelic someone to breathe down his neck this season? Winnipeg fans can only wish.

Not like Miller won't feel a whiff or two if Lacky posts a shutout or two in clean-up or substitute.

Was Kadri's comment that crazy? That series was supposed to be over in 4.

I think I get it now, the Leaves go for the kind of players/coaches/GMs that Leaf fans can relate to!

You have to think that someone with even an iota of creativity backed by the MLSE budget should be able to do some pretty interesting things - apparently the SpotsVu system the NBA uses costs about $100k (ie. less than 1/10th of what they're paying Mike Komisarek this year), they could conceivably employ a handful of measurement systems and a legion of analysts all at the same time and work out which one is the most applicable to the NHL..

Anyway we'll see what happens. Hopefully the Laffs find a way to botch it but it'll be interesting times nonetheless.

blushing edit: BTW, @mc79hockey will join us at noon for a stats primer and some perspective on the hiring of Kyle Dubas by the Leaves..

9:52 AM - 22 Jul 2014
Your intenet stats guy, THE Tyler Dellow (aka as the person you sometimes like to reference in messageboard posts yet don't even bother to carefully read what he wrote) will appear on TEAM Radio's afternoon show at noon.

How good is that? :mex:

Summer (Year?) Of Hockey Analytics (#fancystats) continues: Tyler Dellow (aka @mc79hockey) leaving blogging world to work for an NHL club.

Sooooooooooooooo, The Oilers have hired their own advanced stats guy, none other than THE Tyler Dellow, and are, uhhhhhhhhh, now following the "Leaves Model." 8-)

The http://www.mc79hockey.com/ is no longer available, so sadly, cyber bro dave can no longer quote his studies that he didn't even bother reading in the first place ............. Image

Tyler Dellow hired by Oilers as mainstreaming of fancy stats is complete
By Greg Wyshynski

Article touches on the the Dellow hire as well as a couple of other teams' hiring hockey number crunchers ..............
Just as Sunny Mehta, a former pro poker player, was hired by the New Jersey Devils. Just as Eric Tulsky of SB Nation was hired by an NHL team. Just as Kyle Dubas, whose dedication to analytics was his calling card as a junior hockey general manager in the Soo, was hired as an assistant GM with the Toronto Maple Leaves. And so on.

It’s the Summer of Fancy Stats, and it’s been a joy to watch NHL teams genuflect to the eggheads, while critics of this new religion have been forced to swallow their words with a heaping side order of pride.

Tyler Dellow is loathed by some in hockey, and not just because he toppled Colin Campbell under the weight of his own nepotism. He’s been called out by the likes of Steve Simmons and Marc Spector over the years; now, he’ll be employed by a team they cover, one that valued his knowledge and analysis more than that of any scribe or television bloviator.

The possession time of Dellow’s middle finger to the establishment would be among the leaders in Fenwick Flip-Off.

OK, saying he was hired by “the Oilers” might be a stretch. No one is sure how Craig MacTavish and Kevin Lowe really feel about analytics. But Coach Dallas Eakins is a dedicated follower, and Dellow is expected to report directly to him. So is assistant GM Scott Howson, who no doubt lobbied within the organization for the move.

This is what it takes in the NHL for a team to embrace analytics: advocates in places of power.

Mehta was hired because the Devils’ ownership wanted him, not Lou Lamoriello. Dubas was hired because Shanahan wanted to add that insight to his front office. And Dellow was hired – after well over a year of flirtation between himself and the Oilers – because he had a few key personnel pushing for it.
Sooooooooooo, on the Canucks', AGM Laurence Gilman would fit the profile as the stats/numbers guy for the club, right? Image

The Canucks were also in on Del Zotto right up until this morning. Don't think think they are done wheeling and dealing.

MDZ signs with the Flyers but interesting that the Canucks were allegedly "in" on him. Image
