Somehow his demands went way down, if reports are correct, 1yr contract with the Pens. :?

One year, 4 million. Wants a bridge year with a contender. Chasing a cup and hoping for a killer year to get a longer deal next year. Good move on his part.
The only HW the Canucks need

It'll be fun to read the quotes next year when Christian signs a 4 year $24m deal with Carolina, "I think this team has a chance to win it all etc, yadda yadda say could you make that payable to-"

Sabres were probably worried he'd retire in the summer of 2018 at age 36 with three $1m seasons left.

(worried about the cap-recapture penalties)

The Sabres are, and will continue to be a team looking just to get to the cap bottom. That was a great contract for them. And, if not them, there are always 4 or 5 teams willing to take on cap for cheap $$.
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!

The Sabres have NEVER been a cap-floor team (although they may be one this season for McConnor's sake).

As a matter of fact their average has been within $3m or $4m from the cap CEILING.

There's no reason to believe they "will continue to be" a cap-floor team after the McConnor Sweepstakes.

When owner Terry Pegula bought the team 3 years ago he promised "no financial mandates"

... and that "the Buffalo Sabres' reason for existence will be to win a Stanley Cup."

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=6147411

Apparently that means tanking when necessary and spending when necessary.

(for example they just chose to spend $12m to get rid of Ehrhoff vs $18m left on that contract -7 yrs)

(all real dollars)

You said this was the "dumbest buy-out ever".

I responded with the only possible answer.

But you're not interested are ya big guy?

Nope.

You're gonna stick to your guns and insist the guys who make the big bucks are "dumb". :)

Even if you have to make up shit.

MOST teams would have taken on Ehrhoff with the contract he had. :eh:
