Garrison traded to Tampa Bay

Post by SKYO »

And so the rebuild begins!!! RD should be happy.
@VanCanucks
#Canucks acquire 50th overall pick from Tampa Bay for Jason Garrison, the rights to Jeff Costello and Van's 7th round pick in 2015.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

2nd unhappy player gone. Once again, we were expecting more of a return though.

Salary dump. The defence needed to be changed anyways. Lots of cap space now. I dont love the return on either trade but I DO like the fact there are going to be some new faces here next season. Same old stale players wasn't going to cut it .

Florida, where all of the Canuck defencemen go to retire... Ohlund, Jovanovski, Salo, Garrison...

Given what we heard from HW, Jason gave the canucks two teams. They didn't view him as part of the plan moving forward. This is where the previous regime would have kept the asset until they got what they wanted for him... and never did.

Two trades where we could only trade with two teams.

About a hour ago on 1040 they said the rumor was the Nucks were trying to "dump" Garrison's contract to Tampa. Seems like that's exactly what they did. They're gaining a lot of cap space and picks...

I wonder if they're kicking the tires on Iggy.

Really a second round pick plus pucks for Garrison.

He isn't worth much more really!

Cap space here we come.

Terrible return, but a housecleaning move.

Garrison is a decent player, but cannot play the right side. With Hamhuis and Edler ahead of him on the depth chart, $4.6 million on a bottom pairing d-man isn't good management.

That's $4.6M more in cap space available over the next four years.

Great deal (for Tampa). Late 2nd rounder for a 2nd pairing defenseman on a great (by the new UFA standard) contract.

Gotta hope Benning is saving his most impressive work for the draft table.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting that much for Garrison.

But I did expect a little more than this.

This is the most important draft I can remember for the Canucks. They better make the most of these middle-round picks.

Burrows and Hansen are next.

Say what you will, Gillis always talked about Bold moves... Benning is actually doing them.

Kesler, Garrison, 3rd, 7th
for
Bonino, 24th, 50th, 3rd, Sbisa.

Most of us wouldn't be pleased with that deal yesterday.

Obviously Benning is loading up on assets, hopefully to make a play for one of the Sams or Ekblad. He's also cleared quite a bit of cap space.

We've got about $21M in space, with Tanev and Kassian to sign. Looks to me like Benning wants to get in on the Stastny's and Vanek's of the UFA market...

Too bad he wouldn't waive for St. Louis. The return would have been better. Tampa did the Canucks a solid as Garrison in the end said only the two Florida teams. Panthers weren't interested so Tampa took him. It was his second choice behind the Canucks when he signed as a FA.

A lot of capped cleared here. A few extra picks this year. Benning cleaning house.

Up next Burrows and Hansen, maybe.
The only HW the Canucks need
