Quoting Pete Schaad from TEAM 1040 doesn't change anything, nor are Harold and Gino equatable.

In your own post you stated that 73% voted "no" to Gino's inclusion in your informal poll last year. This is a very good indication that the whole discussion is only taking place because of his tragic circumstances.

Have a Gino night. Honour his time as a Canuck. But no Ring of Honour.

Uhhhhhh, yeah .... it is applicable because since you were in Iraq, it's pretty clear that during your time there you didn't follow the Canucks very closely and were seemingly oblivious to Gino's contribution to the Canucks. Image
What I mean is my loyalty pre-dates the damn flying V. I've seen enough mediocrity to last another 40+ years....encouraging and perpetuating it by recognizing and applauding players that were merely role players seems like we are becoming a little too comfortable with it all.

I want to see a god damn Stanley Cup in my lifetime. I don't want to be another Terry Siebert

Taylor Pyatt being included is as ridiculous to me as it is you but I'm using it to illustrate how Ginos battle shouldn't usher him into being added to a group of players that were foundations of the franchise. Same goes for Cluotier.

You're a little behind catching on to the sarcasm today...the off season blues getting to ya?
Uhhhhh, with all due respect, sir, you are confusing your supposed sarcasm with sheer utter ignorance. Image

Uhhhhhhh, well that was polling the hfboard fanbase ... who aren't exactly the bellweather when it comes to representing the entire Canucks' Nation fan base.

You make it sound like the Ring of Honour has this long, storied history.

I mean come on! Can you get serious?

It was launched as part of the franchises' promotion in conjunction with their 40th anniversary season. It's been around for uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, just over four years ..........

Adding Gino will only add credibility to the Ring of Honour. How many people that follow hockey around the world know who the Hell Orland Kurtenbach is versus Gino Odjick?

Exactly. Image

Look "dan" .............. Gino's contributions to the Canucks both on and off the ice is considerably more than your, uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, "contributions" to the corner and somehow .... you are a member of the "CC Hall of Fan."

WTF? :hmmm:

That is  worthy x10000000000000!!!!!!!!!!!! Image

I mean come on! I didn't even know you posted on this forum until you started posting your disparaging remarks on Gino. :(

So, I launched an "investigation" to read up on your, uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh past "contributions" to the discussions here @CanucksCorner .... and after about 20 or 30 posts .... I had to stop and take a leak, they were that bad!!!!!!!!! Image

Go ahead and enjoy all my posts have to offer. Why are you taking this so personally? I'm glad we finally have something to debate about at least but you appear to be going off into outer space over it a little too far(careful, you don't know what's up there... ;) ask Doc ). Lets carry on minus the hurt feelings that someone doesn't agree with you though....mmmmkay?

Gino was funny, fired up the crowd, stuck up for team mates and all but to say he was notable "on and off the ice" in any way more than most other role players is a bit much. Personally I liked Curt Fraser, Donald Brashear, or Tiger Williams but they really weren't that good of players to recognize and celebrate in an official capacity like the ROH has been portrayed to be....as far as I am concerned anyway.

Look, "dan" ...... it wasn't an enjoyable experience. That's why I had to uhhhhhh, break off, from said research. :(

So, the Pot (not the poster), calling the Betamax "black." Did you or did you not pull the irrelevant "I'm a Patriot" card and tried to "personalize" this discussion when you previously wrote:
"Farhan(sic), I was in Baghdad in uniform while you were still in your dads bag in liquid form....

The fact that you were in Baghdad (if in fact you were there) says it all. You didn't have the time to appreciate Gino's tremendous contributions to the team and community during his storied tenure here.

Well, well, well, now you're basically making an argument for Gino to be a ROH inductee. LOL.

In other words -- it is the entertainment business.

Right? Image

^^^^ Well it looks like the gloves are off in the Gino Odjick thread, how appropriate!!

I know some of you will think I'm kidding here, but I'm not...

SERIOUSLY: Take down numbers 10, 12, 16, 19

.... and raise Number 29 to the rafters.

And do it. RIGHT. FUCKING. NOW.

We asked those other schmucks to bring us a Cup.

They failed.

Each and every one.

We asked Gino to put the fear of God into every mofo that played against our beloved Canucks.

And by God did that... asshole Image... deliver!!!

Not really...I'm saying lets have some sort of fan support night but not throw him in there with Gradin, MacLean, Linden and OK as franchise cornerstones to be recognized.

Has mediocrity already sprouted? Are we done hoping for a championship now? It is like 43 years now....maybe it's already too late

Yeah he delivered. He delivered by making us temporarily forget that we haven't won anything other than scraps and conference titles.

It was pretty sweet though...I will agree there

How about Greg Adams? Geoff Courtnall? Pavel Bure? They all scored absolutely massive goals that had me so fuckin pumped it was insane. I want them in waaaaaaaay before loading Gino in there thanks

Then theres Bieksa! Alex Burrows in a few years? That dragon slayer goal had my Aussie neighbours at the time thinking I was totally insane...
(yeah Doc, you got me there. This has reminded me about him and I'll retract my rants about him from a few months ago...)

Well, I have no real issue with 10, 12, 16, 19 being in the rafters as that's part of hockey tradition or at least an attempt to create a legacy.

But to be honest, I generally don't like the idea of number retirements in sports. For obvious reasons.

One of the things I like what they do in soccer is when an heir apparent is bestowed a marquee number i.e. like for example the no. 7 jersey is given to the team's Talisman.

Not just any bloke can wear that number.

From looking at your previous posts, you may or may not be a Manchester United fan. So it's like the no. 7 jersey going from Beckham and then later on to CR7.

But in hockey, most teams follow the number retirement tradition (with the exception of the Leaves --one of the few intelligent moves the franchise has done ....).

I would be okay if Gino's number is unofficially retired with the possibility that only when a legitimate heir apparent that possess similar qualities to what he brought to the franchise with the blessing of his family be allowed to wear it, moving forward.

In other words, it would be an insult to have some training camp tryout on a PTO or some nondescript rookie inherit that number, like it was just any other number available off the rack. Image
