Give it 4 to 5 years. I can hardly wait to read you slamming the next GM for benefiting from the players Gillis drafted.

I go back to the cup run of 2011 and hearing of all the "arrogance" that the Canucks had I wonder if it was actually Gillis that portrayed that arrogance more so than the players ? Looking at the team now we lack guys like Torres and Lapierre. Sure they are aholes but look at Boston which is a team full of aholes. Same with Chicago especially when they won their first cup.

It doesnt take a genius to look around the league at all the stories coming from other gm's about dealing with Gillis and realize he had some issues dealing with his peers. Some people downplayed them and said it was because Nonis' cousin is a TSN "insider" but as usual where there is smoke there is fire.

Do you buy that explanation from Michael D. Gillis? :hmmm:

I never thought GMMG was arrogant. I thought he was open and forthcoming. I also do not believe the fan base and press needs to know every detail of the organization just as I do not need to know every detail of Central City Brewing to be a fan of theirs.

He spoke corporate speak. He talked in general terms and laid out broad guidelines. Some folks took them as hard and fast rules and ironclad plans so when exceptions occurred they had a hard time fathoming it. I deal with folks who speak that way all the time, unless you are on the inside to see the warts, the corporate line is clear and smooth sailing.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

People overstate the Canucks' draft problems.

They have traded away many picks and prospects. But, their actual drafting is decent.

Gillis was canned because he had a great team and it went from decent to average to shit too quickly. It didn't help that he had a reputation for rudeness (real or perceived).

He was arrogant alright. Just did a small job for a homeowner in Shaunessay who knows Gillis and the Aqualinis, says he's extremely arrogant. He says what you see on tv is what you get from Gillis in person, very unfriendly to the point of being really uncomfortable in his company.

This is Botchford's take on Michael D. Gillis ...

via: http://blogs.theprovince.com/2014/04/12/149907/

BEST REALITY

It’s been open season on Gillis since he was axed, and a lot of those criticisms will dull over time.
He didn’t do himself any favours with an act that often made him appear like he was riding a high horse. But, to be honest, when he was with the media he generally was the smartest guy in the room.

I do think some of his routine was misunderstood, including those digs at The Moj which will never be forgotten.
That was one of the few times Gilly was letting his freak flag fly. He was trying to be jocular and loose. It was part of his regular routine off air. He’d make fun of my jeans and shoes and I’d make fun of his facial hair or the lack of sleep. His delivery may have come across as mean spirited, but he didn’t intend it that way.

To be honest, I got a kick out of Michael D. Gillis. In fact, he's exactly the type of personality I can appreciate. (I love me some me.)

If you can back it up, you can be as arrogant as you want. 8-)

Cool stuff right there. I mean if you have poster Betamax and a runt cub reporter like Jason Botchford in your corner life can't be all bad. The digs at Marjanovich were some of the best radio in years around here. So now the Moj grows some balls after Gillis has been fired and trashes him or air.

Well, at least the Moj "trashes" Michael D. Gillis under his regular "handle." Can't say the same with everybody here, EH? 8-)
