Quite true. The "good" news for those hoping for us to "tank" is that we won't even have to try. With injuries to the Sedins and the defence this year, the complete lack of secondary scoring, and all the drama off the ice, the team isn't good enough to win.Mr.Miyagi wrote:I have said it before but I absolutely 100% do not agree with "tanking it."
I believe you should dress the best lineup, and compete to win every night. Anything less is a shame. Unfortunately, even when we dress our best and try to compete we end up losing anyway.
This has been a tough season, but most of us have seen worse.
"Tanking" isn't really a choice when your team doesn't have the choice to be "good". And the Canucks are not a good hockey team at the moment.
The Good news is that there is still 2/3 of a top-line in the Sedins, if they get healthy. It's probalby not possible for Burrows (if he's still here next year) to be worse than he is right now, and Gillis is likely to have some serious money to throw around in the summer if he chooses to. Assuming a Booth buyout, Gillis will have about $16.5M of space heading into next season with about 6 roster spots to fill.
If the Canucks wind up drafting in the top-10, that should be another good prospect for the system, and as long as a couple of our forward prospects develop decently in the next couple years, there's no reason to think this rebuild should take a decade like Toronto/Edmonton.
The defensive core is there, it looks like our goaltending will contine to be fairly solid, we just can't score goals.
