I was wondering if there were trade discussions ongoing when Lu didnt play the heritage classic. Don't play the guy because if he gets hurt, deal is off.

Yep.

Confirmed by TSN: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=445254

Like I said.

I am extremely saddened by the news as Luongo became a sentimental favorite of mine, but I'm happy that he's in a place where he wants to be.

But fuck..............he's alongside Tim Thomas now?!?!?!!??!

p.s.___________Good on Gillis for picking up Matthias and Markstrom.

 now we know why he didn't play....

No one had this on their radar...decent return on a lost cause....it's all in on Rookie Eddie now...is this the start of the rebuild?

Happy for Louie. He deserved to go back where he wanted to play. He's put up with the Vancouver bullshit for long enough. All the best Lou and thanks for 8 years.

Stoked that Gillis pried Mattias out of Florida in this one.

Canucks retain salary as well and there are cap recapture implications as well.

McKenzie and others reporting this trade happened because of the snub and was not in place beforehand.

Now he can win a Cup with the Panthers before us :(

Yeah, he was owed this one by GMMG and Aqualungs...we got better than what Nonuts was holding ransom for....

Well or course people said that in the absence of Luongo being traded there was no good reason for him not getting the heritage Classic.

Not a real surprise here. This was a deal that was slated to be made in the off season. As soon as new ownership took over in Florida Luongo was back in play for Florida. Not sure why it was accelerated and made now though, perhaps to help other players with NTC see the light.

Bullshit, they couldn't trade him before for years and in 3 days he's gone?

There had to be at least feelers before...

I just can't believe they moved Luongo in the middle of this goalie market. I mean it was bad enough two years ago but if anything there is an abundance of goalies on the market.

I'm happy for Luongo that he at least got his preferred destination after all this crap he endured in the past two years.

I am very curious though to see the full details of the deal. Don't know enough about Markstrom other than that he was highly touted but has not looked good in his few games. Matthias seems the classic 3rd liner.

I wonder how much the Canucks are eating in this contract.

Jesus ANOTHER Florida deal!
