Luongo to Panthers for Markstrom and Mattias

Re: Luongo to Panthers for Markstron and Mattias
End of an era.
Luongo and Lack have confirmed themselves on twitter.
There are reports now from James Duthie that Luongo’s agent Pat Brisson contacted the Canucks after the Heritage Classic “benching.” McKenzie and Dreger are alluding to the same thing, that the non-start in the Classic played a big role in this trade (i.e. Luongo was pissed).
I have liked and supported Luongo, but enough with this BS. I hope he is happy with his wife and kids in Miami.
Markstrom and Matthias would be a fine return. Sounds like Steven Anthony is headed to Florida as well and the Canucks have retained some salary.

It's a great day for hockey!

Makes more sense that it was the reason for the "snub". Anyway, it's too early to trust any information coming out.Arachnid wrote:Bullshit, they couldn't trade him before for years and in 3 days he's gone?black ace wrote:McKenzie and others reporting this trade happened because of the snub and was not in place beforehand.
There had to be at least feelers before...
To Lu, so long and thanks for all the fish.

Canucks retain $800,000 cap hit.

Explains the Lack of starts. Which came first, the trade talk of the snub - we have an eternity for the debate. I don't get the snub first as this is a very good hockey trade.
Good to see Luongo got his Florida trade. The Kesler rumour mongers must have dropped a load when they heard this. Strombone1 tweets a palm tree LOL.
Does Timmy back up Luongo?
Markstrom as a backup or a young 1A/1B, Mathias, finally a third centre.
Hank/Kesler/Mathias looks quite solid.
Bigger, Younger, Faster - Well done GMMG

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

I think he's going to fit in great.rockalt wrote:Don't know enough about Markstrom other than that he was highly touted but has not looked good in his few games.
Every time I look out my window, same three dogs looking back at me.
Re: Luongo to Panthers for Markstron and Mattias
Hmm. That doesn't make sense to me... if this offer from Fla had been on the table last year Gillis (and Luongo) would have been all over it. Luongo already wanted to go to Fla... he didn't need *more* motivation.black ace wrote:McKenzie and others reporting this trade happened because of the snub and was not in place beforehand.
(unless Luongo threatened to sit out, and the Canucks got so desperate that they agreed to hold back tons of salary?)

Re: Luongo to Panthers for Markstron and Mattias
Funny how things work sometimes Bertuzzi for Lou Mattias for Bertuzzi and now Mattias for Lou.
So I was wrong someone did eat Lou's contract. I am glad he gets to play where his home is, and will not have to deal with everything that has happened to him.

I see you raced over here..BigTuna wrote:Gillis looks so bad here.
Honestly at first blush I'm pretty pleased with it. I don't have high hopes for Markstrom at all but we sent Lou to his preferred location and got a replacement and a guy who might be able to chip in here in a not-insignificant way over the next few years.
No salary dump coming back which is nice.
So long Roberto, and thanks for all the fish.

Wait, on Luongo?herb wrote:Markstrom and Matthias would be a fine return. Sounds like Steven Anthony is headed to Florida as well and the Canucks have retained some salary.
Guess I can abandon my initial impression..
Re: Luongo to Panthers for Markstron and Mattias
There is no way the team is going to finish off the season with that much inexperience in net. I expect to see some minor trade or signing for a veteran in his twilight years.
Biron? Maybe Babs comes back?

Re: Luongo to Panthers for Markstron and Mattias
Now this explains everything in my mind. Media must stir some sh*t up to sell thus creating the Lack&Lou controversy and now to sell more news they are saying its due to the benching. Pretty solid return as Mattias is what we would've been happy with and I am guessing Markstrom is the throw in for the 800k Canucks is eating. Can't be last min as it is too good to be that. GMMG surprised us all again.
On a side note, interesting to see Canucks cranking out good goalies when we used to be the graveyard.
