Why not see how his camp goes. He used to play with some jam. Maybe he had trouble with the new team or something
His problem was Green didn’t like him. As soon as he was on for a few goals against he was instant dog house. Gonna play bottom six, don’t get scored on!! Maybe if he gets a clean slate.....
I could be wrong but from where I sit he was slacking off and Green called him on it.

Probably best for all concerned if they part ways.

His $500K bonus has been paid, maybe retain another few hundred thousand and dish him to a budget team?
I was surprised...shocked even...to see Schaller played 50+ games last season.

And he was quite hot in the waning weeks - playing like a man possessed, as AV would say.

If we're truly taking the next step and moving forward, he shouldn't be on the Canuck roster. Means somebody with more potential or
is already better would sit or be sent down or moved.
I'd rather a move to another team but playing in Utica would suffice. Still, If in Utica, Green might be too tempted to call him up
because of a player he thinks needs an "adjustment".

He's a guy I'd be happy with as farm depth for the playoff run. Save half his cap hit, and he has the potential to get somewhat hot (by 3rd/4th liner standards - 5 points in 11 games after his last healthy-scratch stretch from Jan-Feb.

I can see a complicated trade with Nashville - as they have way too many centers.

RyJo
Duchene
Turris
Mikael Granlund
Bonino

They could swap Turris for Eriksson while taking Sutter as well with all 3 taking salary retention.

Turris has 5 years left on his contract.

Eriksson 3 and Sutter 2.

So here's the deal:

Eriksson (15%) 900K ($5.1M) + Sutter (50%) $2.1875M
total cap hit for Preds: $7.2875M after.
total retained by Canucks: $3.08M

for Turris (20%) $1.2M ($4.8M)
total cap hit for Canucks: $8.6M altogether with retention and Turris.

Capfriendly armchair gm preds, all they'd have to is send gaudreau, grimaldo and fabbro to the AHL to have $1.438M in cap space with a 22 man size roster. They could also move another center in a trade, but they get out of 5 more years of Turris, while having lesser term in LE & Sutter.

As for the Canucks I think Turris a playmaker would do much better here and he'll help out the 3rd line wingers score more as well versus Sutter who can't setup plays that well.

Our top 3 centers imo would be upgraded with:
Petey
Horvat
Turris
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

We don't need to retain on Sutter there Skyo.

Teams were inquiring about him last season (allegedly).

We just need him to prove that he's healthy.

There are teams in need of a face-off-winning elite-PK-killing centre.

His $1M bonus has been paid, which might help a tad.

But if we retained 50% we should get a great return.. if he's healthy.

Oh yeah, it would be just fine to have him available in Utica with just an $825K cap hit to us.

But Jimmy probably owes it to him to try to find another team for him right?

Yeah I'd like to see one full year of healthy play of Sutter, he's a solid #3C and a hockey pro two-way PK, our penalty kill was crazy when both Sutter and Beagle were manning both units.

Which team has cap space and a shitload of picks? Senators.

2020 2nd rounders: Sens, CBJ, Stars
2021 2nd rounders: Sens, CBJ, Sharks

Eriksson + JV for two 2nds anyone? yeah ok fire up the faxes.

free's up a couple spots and loads of cap space, this is analyzing on JV's total max peak play in his career which imo will top out as a 2nd/3rd line RW, a perennial 17-22 goal type, plus we have Hoglander, Podkolzin, Lockwood types developing. I don't see a possible Bertuzzi or Neely type scenario here with JV blossoming into a top line power winger.
Podkolzin is showing more of that promise of becoming a surefire #1RW in the NHL.

Ferland - Pettersson - Boeser
Pearson - Horvat - Miller
Baertschi - Sutter - Goldobin
Leivo - Beagle - Motte
Roussel - Gaudette - MacEwen
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Not bad Skyo, but my interpretation of what Eriksson's agent said, and what Benning said, is Loui is still sticking to his NTC. And any NTC will DEFINITELY include the Sens.

Which is why I'm in favour of a credible threat of demotion, because I think that may be required to get Loui to waive to one of the few teams that might actually be interested in his contract.

Were you not the one who said jake was 'a sure fire #1"?? :D

Jake is still 2 years too young to give up on. Look at Bertuzzi and Neely.

The tweener (Baertschi, Levio, Motte, or Sutter -if Gaudette outplays him, etc.) that gets traded is the guy who has the best camp. Sell the tweener high. Keep Goldobin and Virtanen. Goldobin is just too skilled to give up on before camp, and #Shotgun needs 18 more months to know we ain't giving up another Neely. I would rather get a 5th (or nothing) for Jake in 2 years than get a 2nd now and have him develop into the next top 10 league power forward in2 years somewhere else.

I don’t give up on Virtanen but he’s nothing like Neely or Bertuzzi whatsoever.

Jake will come alive in the playoffs. You wait and see. With his size and speed.
