Yeah, even I'm cringing at the hacks on Gaunce. Nice to see him pop a goal in there, and his +/- doesn't look good, but it's sooooo early in the season. I'll reserve judgemental comment until 1/4 way through the season at least. That said, it would be nice to see his offense start to take off. Anybody wonder if the lack of team offense is due to the players or the system their coach is preaching?

Wolves Make Roster Moves

excerpt:
"The Vancouver Canucks have assigned forwards Steven Anthony and Prab Rai, defenseman Adam Polasek and goaltender Joe Cannata from the Chicago Wolves to the ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings. The Canucks also have assigned right wing Kellan Tochkin from the Wolves to the Central Hockey League’s Missouri Mavericks, while Chicago has assigned goaltender Mathieu Corbeil to Missouri.

In addition, Chicago has signed defenseman JEREMIE BLAIN to a Standard Players Contract (SPC) and assigned him to the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads.

Chicago’s roster now stands at 31 players, which includes 19 forwards, 10 defensemen, and two goaltenders."

No surprises on Anthony, Rai, Cannata, and Tochkin - but I didn't expect Polasek to be beaten out by Hunt, Negrin, Miskovic, and even Andersson.

Yeah, Polasek is a bit of a surprise. Maybe it was a matter of giving him ample playing time and Kalamazoo was the best place to give him that. Hopefully he gets back up there. Archibald must be impressing because I would have expected to see him going to Kalamazoo as well by now.

I was also surpised when Polasek was sent down to the ECHL If the lockout is settled he'll be up again but none the less I'm surprised

Obviously every player is different and even the two situations may not be that comparable in general but if you take a look at the kids who were in the ECHL during the last lockout who were around Polasek's age, it's not exactly a list of future NHL stars.

The names I recognize among the 22 and under crowd are Ole-Kristian Tollefsen, Patrick Dwyer, Deryk Engelland, Josh Gratton, Dave Steckel and Rich Peverly.

I excluded goaltenders for obvious reasons, and some kid by the name of Alex Burrows didn't make the list by virtue of being 23 that season.

LACK, Eddie (G) L 6-5 193 Norrtalje, Sweden 01/05/88 Chicago (AHL)

OK, goaltending is set.

On defence, if they keep only 8, you've got to figure that Negrin, Andersson, Miskovic, and Hunt are battling for 2 spots.

If they keep 14-15 forwards, then I'm guessing Kenton Miller, Schneider, Archibald, and Friesen might be sent down - and I could see them loaning Andrew Gordon who, by some reports last season, had trouble finding a role.

Define large number.

Of the 8 guys under 6':
DAVIES, Michael
HAYDAR, Darren
STERLING, Brett
HUNT, Brad
I do not believe are property of the Vancouver Canucks.

So that means 4 of the remaining 31 players are actually property of the Canucks and under 6' tall.

Chicago will sign their own players in order to ice a competitive product without the worry of some of their best players getting called up to play in the NHL. There's more than a few guys with contracts only with Chicago and not the Canucks, y'know the Jason Krogs of the world that can excel at the AHL level but just can't make that transition to the NHL game. Often it has a lot to do with their size, they seem to be able to get away with being on the smaller side in the AHL but the guys in the NHL are just as fast and even bigger making it very hard for them to succeed.

If the Canucks want to prepare them selves for a bigger team, then 38% of their players is quite a high number ( I've exlduded the goalies )

Let's hope Archibald makes the team this season and plays up to his size
cheers

AHL's Chicago Wolves assign Darren Archibald and John Negrin to Kalamazoo of ECHL and sign Kenton Miller and assign him Missouri of CHL.

8-) (so far)

Even more than Friesen, I would hate to see Mallet sent down...

Currently there are still 17 forwards in camp... I think a typical roster size is 25.

Maybe 9 D, 2 G, + 14 F?

Or maybe 8 D 2 G, and 15 F?

Either way, at least 2 more forwards would have to go, I think. I think Schneider will be one, and unfortunately it will probably be Friesen, Mallet, Gordon, or Rodin for the other...

Chicago signed forwards left in camp:

Davies, Haydar, Longpre, Matson, T. Miller, Pinizzotto (not sure how his PTO vs. his Canucks contract works), and Sterling.
