Re: Prospects Thread 2012-13
Sept 20 is opening night in the CHL - but the Canucks have only 3 prospects that are likely to play in Canadian Juniors - Brendan Gaunce, Frank Corrado, and David Honzik...
In contrast, the Canucks have 6 prospects in the NCAA:
Jeremy Price, senior, Colgate
Joseph Labate, sophomore, Wisconsin
Patrick McNally, sophomore, Harvard
Ben Hutton, freshman, Maine
Wesley Myron, freshman, Boston University
Matt Beattie, freshman, Yale
Alexandre Grenier goes from the Halifax Mooseheads to Salzburg (Austria), and Nicklas Jensen goes from the Oshawa Generals to AIK (Sweden).
AIK plays their first game on Sep 13 against Timra, and Salzburg played their first league game tonight, losing 3-1! Grenier did not show up on the scoresheet.
Guess who the ref was in the Salzburg game... yep, Stephane Auger! Hahahaha.

OHL Exhibition
Belleville 3 Kingston 6
I'm not sure if Gaunce was in the lineup.
Kitchener 3 Sudbury 5
The Wolves are still trying out players, so Corrado was not in the lineup.
I wonder what will happen with David Honzik - he lost his starting role in Victoriaville last season to Brandon Whitney, and was traded to Cape Breton this summer for a 4th round pick in 2013...

Re: Prospects Thread 2012-13
The Wolves training camp opens on Sept 28, and the first regular season game is Oct 13... here are a couple of familiar faces getting signed to AHL contracts:
Wolves Ink Negrin
excerpt:
The 23-year-old blueliner split the 2011-12 campaign between the American Hockey League’s Abbotsford Heat and St. John’s IceCaps, posting 4 assists and 18 penalty minutes in 40 games. He also recorded 5 assists and 6 points in nine ECHL tilts with the Utah Grizzlies last year.
Wolves Sign Matson
excerpt:
MATSON tallied 2 points (G, A) in five regular-season games with the Wolves last year after being signed by the team to an Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO) on April 7, 2012. He also appeared in all five of Chicago’s Calder Cup postseason tilts, accruing an assist and 4 penalty minutes.
Prior to joining the Wolves, the 23-year-old forward ranked eighth on the University of Minnesota with 23 points (8G, 15A) in 43 outings during his senior campaign. He also captained the Golden Gophers to the 2012 NCAA Frozen Four. (was a Canuck 6th round pick in 2007, 176 overall)
Wolves Ink Longpre
excerpt:
LONGPRE posted eight goals and 18 points in 39 games with the Wolves as a rookie last season before being traded to the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons on Feb. 28, 2012.
The 24-year-old forward set a career-high and led the team with 42 points (14G, 28A) in 33 games as a senior with Robert Morris University (AHA) in 2010-11. He also made his professional debut in eight contests with the AHL’s Worcester Sharks after the completion of his collegiate season.

Vancouver Canucks sign defenceman Evan McEneny
excerpt:
The 6’2”, 205 lbs. Hamilton, ON, native registered two assists, four penalty minutes and a plus-three rating in two games with the OHL Kitchener Rangers in 2011.12 before missing the remainder of the season due to injury.
This guy might have been drafted in the 2012 Draft if he had not sustained a season ending knee injury after only 2 games this last season --- a low risk (48th contract for the Canucks?) addition.

Bulls announce Captains
excerpt:
The Belleville Bulls unveiled their captaincy for the 2012-13 season on Monday, naming third year-centreman Brendan Gaunce captain along with Stephen Silas, Brady Austin, Michael Curtis and Joseph Cramarossa serving as assistants.
Gaunce was impressive as a 17 year-old, scoring 20 times while adding 48 assists in 68 games. The Markham native was drafted 26th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and signed an entry level contract with the club on August 13th.

From all I've read about Joe Cannata he'll start his apprenticeship with the Wolves. For the second time I'm hoping Archibald comes in a blows every ones socks off and makes the team we could do with a power forward like him clicking
cheers

Re: Prospects Thread 2012-13
Thanks once more for doing the work on this thread. Like most of us I am saddened by this nonsense of a strike/lockout (I just cannot care whose fault it is) and this thread will be something to look forward to. Thanks.
