Nik Jensen may very well be the best forward prospect we've drafted in years. Management must be pleased to see this kid dominating right after his draft year.

Whats your take SC? I know you post the stats but I'm interested in your opinion on him and his development seeing as you follow all this so closely.

Round 2 goes to Matson...

I saw round 1. Labate drew a couple of penalties, one on a terrific one on one play. High hockey iq for his age, and a BIG player. Weakness to me seemed to be his skating, which appeared a little labored. A couple of times he missed a chance simply by not having his stick down. At any rate, he is on one of e Badgers top 2 lines and is going to get plenty of opportunities this year. I was pretty impressed and look forward to watching him play more.

Matson gave it his all in round 1, in a game where his top ranked team was a bit lethargic and probably surprised. The were several times where he tried to do too much and he never succeeded.... The Badgers have a pretty tough d corps to beat one on one, and Matson did not look like the guy to do it on Friday. I loved his effort, but I would be very surprised if he were to ever develop as an NHL regular.

He looked raw in pre-season, but he had excellent skating and acceleration, good anticipation, and pretty soft hands. I expect him to have a stellar year in junior based on what I saw.

He didn't seem particularly "gritty", however he also didn't shy away from making plays around the net. If he can continue to build strength, he could definitely develop to be a top 6 scoring winger.

When you say raw do you mean lacking hockey sense but making up for it with skating and shooting skills? I missed the entire pre-season, draft, everything this off season mainly due to how pissed I was after the finals.

Jensen has NHL size right now at 18 so the player we see today will benefit greatly by his physical development in the next 2-3 years.

I think he SC meant that he's 18 and thus raw by definition.

Anyway Jensen seems off to a solid start though he's really not lighting it up down there.

As far as his camp goes, i saw a kid with a lot of NHL upside, though not much in the way of star power. With his size and poise he can play on lines 1 through 3 which makes him a good bet to make the league in some capacity.

If the Canucks end up with a quality second line forward with the 29th pick, they can only consider that to be a major success.

Either way the Canucks will certainly want to maximize his ELC which means there is almost no chance we will see him before the 2013 season.

Yeah - raw and enthusiastic, but looking unsure of where to be in the defensive zone.

Speaking of Jensen...

Sunday Nov 13

OHL

Belleville 2 Oshawa 1 (SO)
Jensen 1 goal, even (did not score on his shootout attempt)

Scored the tieing goal late in the 3rd to earn Oshawa a point.

It's still very early but I would have to say yes, he is.
