Anybody else notice the bouquets being thrown by GMMG to Ben Hutton? Yeah, he's a NCAA guy so you rarely hear about them, but looking at this thread and the kid's stat lines and you have to wonder if there's truth to the hype. Anybody find anything beyond what hockeysfuture and the Sun blotters have on this kid?

You are talking about a guy - Mike Gillis who slagged the previous managements drafting and developing on the day of his hiring. LMAO

The Process!
“Tyler Myers is my guy... I was taking to Scotty Bowman last night and he was bringing up his name, and saying he’s a big guy and big guy need big minutes to play, he is playing great for ya… and I agree with him… He’s been exceptional” - Bruce Boudreau

Team Canada's junior squad released two players on Friday after the team beat Finland 4-2 in a pre-tournament game - defenceman Damon Severson and forward Hunter Shinkaruk.

Horvat scored a goal in that game.
Less Canucks embarrassment please.

Too bad - I always hoped Adam Polasek could be a 5-6 defenceman on the Canucks...

Tim Wharnsby ‏@WharnsbyCBC 24 Dec
#Canucks place A. Polasek on waivers for purposes to terminate his contract.

...

Tim Wharnsby ‏@WharnsbyCBC 25 Dec
#Canucks D Adam Polasek has cleared waivers.

I wonder where Vancouver sits in terms of the number of players it has on contract and how far away they are from the max? Is this another case, like Hamill, of a player not happy with the minutes and competition in which he's playing? Is this a payroll-reduction thing? Are they trying to clear some space to add some more/better/younger prospects?

Either way, I wish Polasek well in Europe - where he will no doubt be playing before too long.

Looks like 47 contracts plus the sliding contracts for Horvat, Shinkaruk, Gaunce, Cassels, and McEneny.

Bad news for Shinkaruk:

Mark Masters ‏@markhmasters 1h
Medicine Hat Tigers Hunter Shinkaruk will undergo surgery in early January to repair hip injury

I guess that means he will miss the rest of the season.

I guess that explains his poor showing at the WJHC pre-season and why he got cut. Good thing is he can get it done now and hopefully get in a couple of games if not at least getting a full summer to work on getting stronger and prepping for camp instead of just rehabbing.

Best of luck recuperating, Shink!

Kinda boggles the mind that they gave the kid a pro contract considering the way he's played. Bit of a head-scratcher there. :eh:

Perhaps Gillis & co. felt he had better upside than that of Polasek. Or at the very least felt LP had reached his ceiling, while Mc is still in Junior.
