Shinkaruk's story, in the Province
He was a phenom and you could tell right away that he loved the game....

The Calgary native was drafted by second overall by Giants in 2002, right after they nabbed Gilbert Brule with the top pick
Less Canucks embarrassment please.

Rangers and Frontenacs Complete Trade

excerpt:
"In the deal, the Rangers send defenceman Evan McEneny to Kingston, in exchange for defenceman Dylan DiPerna and a 2nd round pick in the 2015 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection."

So McEneny goes to a fairly strong Kingston team, which is currently 2nd in the East Division (4th in the Eastern Conference).

Apparently Gaunce used his NTC to nix a deal that would have moved him to the Eerie Otters.

I didn't even know CHL players could have movement clauses..

I wonder why he wouldn't want to go to Erie? Maybe he just enjoys his current living situation in Belleville...

I was looking at the prospects that were 23 or under prior to the season start, and thinking that by the time a prospect was 22-23, you'd have a pretty good idea about how they were going to pan out - especially forwards.

Young forwards on the NHL roster today:
Zack Kassian (22) 1-24-91
Jordan Schroeder (23) 9-29-90

My opinion?
Kassian is at least a bottom 6 NHL player, but seems to have top 6 upside for sure.
Schroeder is an NHL/AHL tweener, with 2nd line upside.

As for the 22 or 23 year old forward prospects?
Alexandre Grenier (22) 9-5-91: Big, but not very physical - if he ever makes the NHL, probably a 3rd liner at best.
Steven Anthony (22) 3-21-91: Won't make the NHL
Ronalds Kenins (22) 2-28-91: Playmaking winger with good skating, will be interesting to see next year if he comes to North America. As for NHL likelihood - no idea.
Alex Friesen (22) 1-30-91: Smallish center, no standout abilities. Likely doesn't make the NHL.
Anton Rodin (22) 11-21-90: Skilled winger, a bit injury prone in his North American stint - I don't see him coming back.
Darren Archibald (23) 2-9-90: Bottom 6 crash and bang winger, will be a 12th/13th forward in the NHL, I think.
Zac Dalpe (23) 11-1-89: Doesn't seem to generate scoring chances, not very physical, I can't see him sticking in the NHL.

Odd that Gaunce wouldn't go to Erie...where did you hear that Dave? A quick Google search turned up nothing. Erie is tops in their conference while Belleville are basement dwellers.

Gaunce has been named an alternate captain for the OHL team of the Subway Super Series. Horvat is on the team as well.

The OHL vs Russia games are tonight and on Monday at 4pm PST.

There is a poster on HFBoards, erieottersnews, who claimed the team was trying to acquire Gaunce and that's where the deal fell apart.

Take it with few servings of salt, of course, but that board is normally pretty swift to put a stop to folks claiming to have inside information over there and as yet I haven't seen that same fate befall this poster..
