I could see LA exposing Brown, Chicago exposing Hossa , whereas SJS would have to protect both Thornton and Marleau. Yep. Burke walked into the best goaltending situation he'd ever have - you can interpret it however you want in terms of his character or his abilities as a GM, but he did at least do right by the player in that case.
