Re: CANUCKS SIGN UFA JASON GARRISON

If the Canucks can scoop up Dylan Reese (probably available on a cheap-ish deal) that would give them another NHL calibre righty and four legitimate pairings. With Reese FORWARDS Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($2.000m) Mason Raymond ($2.200m) / Ryan Kesler ($5....

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings

Prust (who I am totally ignorant of but just assumed was a run of the mill fourth liner who could never beat Ryp in a fight), Tootoo, Paul Gaustad, Adam Burish. I remember Prust from Calgary, and he's a beast on the forecheck, every game he'd bash our defense with relentless bodychecks, then he kep...

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings

Lot's of rumbling in the league about Schultz ultimately deciding his own fate in the NHL, as meanwhile every drafted player from the beginning of the NHL has earned their dues, put in their work, and finally became a UFA and get to decide where they want to sign. But as youngster to slap Anaheims f...

Re: Patience: Gillis is doing the right thing.

As for the whole AV-and-the-young-players thing. Remember that Tanev has burgeoned in his time with Vancouver. So have guys like Hansen . I think the irritant is that AV likes his youngsters to play a safe style of game as opposed to taking risks. Works well for depth players , but I don't think pl...

Re: Patience: Gillis is doing the right thing.

I'm hearing that the treatment of Hodgson and the unfriendly environment for young players in Vancouver played a big part Schultz decision not to play here. Dont shoot the messenger, this what I have been told I have no idea if you are just dropping this in because you like to do that sort of thing...

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings

Ballard is not what we need in that 6th spot. We need size and toughness. I realize that we are stuck with Booth. There aren't many moron GMs out there willing to take a flyer on him like Gillis We do need a nasty crease clearer who can block shots and keep the lanes clear for CS, however it's a ha...

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings

Could be, but Jensen would have to blow away the competition at camp/preseason, as it sounds like the team want him in Sweden next season. Pretty sure management would LOVE for Jensen to make the team. But if he doesn't they'd rather have him in Sweden than the O. Yeah but considering we are not a ...

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings

Sign Doan and get rid of the dumb blonde Booth Booth is staying imo and possibly Ballard, which sucks for ya RD but to get fair value for those guys right now is improbable and AV is warming up to those guys finally , as evidence by the latter part of the season. Looks like NJ might re-sign MB. @Da...

Re: CANUCKS SIGN UFA JASON GARRISON

From W.C._9 in the province comments: Garrison put up 16 goals last year and can play the right side. In his Panther career he has managed to be a + player which is rare. Last year Brian Campbell put up 53 points but was -9 while Garrison was +6 with 33 points. In fact Garrison was the only regular ...

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings

Who knows maybe Jensen makes the club Jensen's a winger. He'd be a nice possibility, but won't address our problems @ centre. Could be, but Jensen would have to blow away the competition at camp/preseason, as it sounds like the team want him in Sweden next season. Doan really is the type of player ...

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings

From the realm of "things we already know", a minor update: John Shannon ‏@JSportsnet The Canucks are still looking for depth at centre. Probably not tonight, but soon. Anyone have any opinions on Jiri Hudler? Too middle-of-the-pack, or would he be useful feeding pucks to Kes/Booth? Not many other ...

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings

And yeah, one UFA signing and all of a sudden our defense looks pretty solid. 8-) I still think the team needs a physical asshole who can play the game as the #5 guy - think Douglas Murray. Bryan Allen would have been fine but I'm not sure I want to spend that much on this kind of player. Somebody ...

Re: CANUCKS SIGN UFA JASON GARRISON

ASSETS: Moves the puck efficiently out of danger. Brings a nice combination of size and speed to the rink. Works hard and is effective on the penalty kill. Plays a safe, mature and steady brand of defense. Also owns a big point shot. FLAWS: He doesn't shy away from the physical game, but he isn't a...
