Re: There will be a strike

But if it's gotta be, let's see the PA blow it up and see how far the owners are willing to go to take the league back to the 50s. Yes, let's see if the PA has the balls to reduce the league back to 6 teams. I'd really like to see the players all band together on that one. This is why decertifying ...

Re: There will be a strike

Apparently the league has proposed a meeting between owners and players with no league or PA personnel involved. Taking it a step further it would be interesting to see a group of owners and a group of NHLPA team reps sit down to try to hammer things out, with input from each side as to who is chos...

Re: There will be a strike

Not a bad analysis by White: "I got to be honest, I personally think he's an idiot,'' White said of Bettman. "Since he's come in I think he's done nothing but damage the game." Hate to admit it, but White has a point, any league that would allow him to be signed to a $3 million dollar contract must...

Re: There will be a strike

There's that report from TSN saying the league budged on making contracts whole and it seems things went from there. I wonder what made the league blink? Maybe they realized they (or the poorer teams) would have more to lose from a lost season than the players, and they got the sense the players we...

Re: There will be a strike

NOW you're talkin! This was probably the first honest negotiating session that's taken place. Didn't the exact same thing happen last lockout? It was Daley and Saskin that put together the framework. I get the distinct impression that up until this point the figureheads on both sides have ...

Re: There will be a strike

I guess it's designed to make themselves look good to the fans, but honestly, why would the players want to play 82 games at this point? The players want to play an 82 game schedule because then they get their full salary. There will be no way to get all the games in past that point so they start l...

Re: There will be a strike

Haven't the owners effectively backed themselves into a corner by putting a Nov 2nd deadline for a 82 game schedule? Speaking strictly from a negotiation standpoint, I'm not sure making that announcement makes a lot of sense. I guess it's designed to make themselves look good to the fans, but honest...

Re: Shea Weber Accepts Offer Sheet from Phi (14 Years, 100 M

Another player seriously fell for the Flyers NMC gentlemans agreement? They should talk to Richards and Carter about what that gentlemans agreement is worth. It's worth even less if there is no clause at all in the contract at any time (Richards and Carter were a week from having the clauses kick i...

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings

What a huge risk by the Flyers, if the Predators match and the Flyers can't make something else happen their offseason is looking like a huge failure. Huge risk by Weber too, if he wants out of Nashville; what if they keep him and ice a cap floor roster until the big money years pass? He'll have ri...

Re: Shea Weber Accepts Offer Sheet from Phi (14 Years, 100 M

I think the fact that he signed that tells everyone that he doesn't want to stay in Nashville. Question..... If Nashville matches do they secure him for the entire 14 years or do they only have to honor the salary hit for one season and he can go UFA? I wish Gillis had had the stones to pull the tr...

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings

You're not calculating compensation properly. It's total salary divided by term, or five, whatever is lower.

So compensation is 4 first rounders on that deal.

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger Nashville was working on a trade and its believed several deadlines passed before Flyers grew tired of waiting. Weber signed offer sheet. I'm told a number of teams were in on a possible Shea Weber trade. If Preds don't match, they receive 4- 1st round picks as compensa...

So he's obviously changed his mind?

The description of his goaltending style, "Drop to your knees, close your eyes, and hope that the puck hits you" was classic Luongo. I'm going to miss this guy.

Re: NHL sends CBA termination notice!

It's interesting to note that the proposal seems to be geared towards the have-not teams. Also, what's missing from this, that has been mentioned in the past, is anything to help facilitate trading bad contracts (I believe Burke was one of the proponents of this). I won't be surprised if some sort o...
