No, a team can take a player to arbitration without tendering a QO. The only restriction is that the maximum reduction in salary is 20%, so he'd get a minimum of $1.52M if the Canucks go the club-elected arbitration route. (Oh, and a player can only be taken to arbitration by a team once a career) ...

I was expecting something a tad closer to the amount Kessler would get in an arbitration ($1.6 or thereabouts) Who's to say arbitration would have awarded 1.6 ? As a Group 2 RFA he was entitled to a qualifying offer equal to his salary last year. I was always under the impression that Kesler had to...

Jyrki makes a good point. The cap era will certainly change (and has started already) the approach GM's take to build their team for playoff success. However, there are 30 GM's and so far the new NHL hasn't produced a cloning example of how this should happen. The Nux for example, somewhat constrict...

Thats what pisses me off the most about the way Anahiem was allowed to bend the rules. To anyone who knows the game it was completly unnecessary to cheat! To run the goalie, to dive,to leave there feet to make a hit, to runn interference constantly. What you are describing is playoff hockey. As a p...

Agree with most of the views. Terrific season which far exceeded most expectations. The post season, a reality check. While Luongo (and the system) kept the games close, the pre-season concern of "secondary scoring" reared it's ugly head. Against the Dux, a far superior team IMO, size and talent won...

I have to say that this series was one of the worst refereed in as many years. If you look at the other series (and in fact check out last year - the first of the "new" look/era) it's all relative. And, it's nothing new from the regular season when a number of us complained about how the officiatin...

While I would agree it would help the Nux if the Sedins were contributing offensively, the fact that they are the leading ice time forwards for the Nux means the top lines for the Dux are on the bench. The key is to be successful on the PK, eat up minutes 5-5 with the Sedins/Pyatt and hopefully frus...

That is interesting and a stat I followed with the Nux this year. Being a defense first system that the Nux employed this year, I was surprised that for the most part over the year they were out hit. In the div the Nux out hit the Avs 130 to 96. In the div the Nux were 16 -16 (w-l) and overall were ...

Good assessment, tant. Altho' it's been a close series, it could just as easily be 3-1 for Dallas or 4-0 and over. Some timely goals and fortunate bounces for once have gone in favour of the good guys. Then, once the team has some confidence, it's a whole different game. The reason the Stars are dow...

how does a broken finger effect your ability to play an energy role, How does a broken finger effect your ability to block shots? throw hits? screen the goalie? agitate the opposing players? I just don't see how this is much different from a broken nose, sure it's broken, but it's not like your goi...

That wouldn't be too unreasonable if it was a 2 year contract, but is Salo REALLY going to be worth that much in 4 years time? You really don't know and it all depends on the cap in 4 years time. On the market that number is a home town discount. The trade off for Salo is the length. A good deal fo...

Site seems quicker (today - Monday March 26th) First time in awhile I've been in because of the delays.

The "new format" is the same as those of us from offthepost.net are used to. It seems to function fine.

tCL & Jyrki , also at otp may have some info from a tecky side.
