Re: OK, So What I have been told

I am an old ex Leaves fan. One of my favourite childhood memories was my father unexpectedly announcing one Sat in 1960 that we were going to Maple Leaf Gardens to see the Leaves play. My bother and I had never been there before. It was just after the Leaves had acquired Red Kelly, and Toronto was p...

Re: GDT - Canucks vs Jets 7PM PST SNet

I love it when you folks talk numbers. The Hockey Analysis site has its own rating system based on goals rather than looking at Corsi or Fenwick numbers (although it also has those numbers posted). The rating system looks at how the player is doing compared to the league average, which to me is a mo...

Re: GDT - Canucks vs Stars 7PM PST SNet

I agree with what you said Herb. Hearing the comments from various people after the trade deadline, I assumed that MG decided that the price for a decent right sided d-man was just too high. He had two choices....trade the future for a better shot at winning this year, or, make the best he could out...

Re: Advanced stats/ Moneypuck

I am not an expert on the advanced stats, but thought it might be interesting to compare Mason Raymond and Chris HIggins. I picked this data off Behind the Net for 2011-2012 so far http://www.behindthenet.ca/ Relative Corsi for 5 vs 5..........Goals for On/60..........Goals Against On/60 Daniel Sedi...

Re: Advanced stats/ Moneypuck

Statistics are very interesting, in and of themselves, but also because of the way people use them. At Hockey Prospectus they use them extensively it seems when their stats support an article’s point, but ignore them when it doesn’t...an article yesterday about the Hodgson trade is a good example of...

Re: Tanev recalled

It also doesn't factor in the regular season versus the play offs. What the article does do is give the cap hit for the D-man for the various teams, which would take some time to figure out. Such a number is interesting in terms of trying to understand why some of the top teams seem to have a lot of...

Re: Tanev recalled

In the "are the Canucks getting good value for the salaries they are paying" vein, there was an interesting article posted yesterday at PensionPuppets.com called, "Team Defense Cap Hit vs. Performance." I am not sure that the methodology directly supports the premise, but, in terms of trying to find...

Re: Tanev recalled

I read Coco's post, and remembered Fred's recent post in another thread: "I was surprised last night to see Pitts had just won their 7th game in a row...as has Detroit. Pitts have $8 mill Cap Space and Detroit (am I reading CapGeek right) has $14 million to spend come the trade deadline....they can ...

Re: Tanev recalled

Wienerdog, getting a right sided right shooting defenceman at a reasonable cap hit without giving up a good roster player to a team that doesn’t mind being a trading partner does seem almost like rocket science. Were there any right sided D-men free agents in the summer that could have been signed a...

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion

Canucks Army had a post in December entitled "Defenseman Trade Targets" and gave a list of players who might be available by the trade deadline. Its depressing how thin the list was, and Josh Gorges is no longer on it. It will be pure genius if the team can add a right sided defenceman at the deadli...

Re: GDT: Jan 9 - Canucks @ The Beach - 4:30PM - SNET Pac

In this article posted in Dec., Gleason was in the top 25 defenceman in the league at least stat wise. One would have to think that he would have a high price tag.

Re: GDT: Canucks @ Beantown - 10am - Snet / NHLN-US

Don Cherry commented on the game on Coach’s Corner in the first intermission in the Toronto/Detroit game. Firstly he said that the Flames getting trashed by Boston meant nothing as they had travelled a zillion miles and were tired at the end of a long road trip. Then he bemoaned that Vancouver got 1...

Re: Henrik Sedin - best passer.... ever?

There were a couple of posts earlier in December related to trying to get a statistical picture on a play maker's effect on those he plays with, and here is a snippet in case anyone is interested. From: http://hockeyanalysis.com/ Can a Player Influence his Teammates Shooting Percentage? By David Joh...

Say anything you like about me RD, just don't say I drink water :)

It looks like this discussion has moved to the "Just Take the Abuse Game Plan" thread.

"I called Clarke over to the bench, looked over at Kharlamov and said, 'I think he needs a tap on the ankle.' I didn't think twice about it. It was Us versus Them. And Kharlamov was killing us. I mean, somebody had to do it. And I sure wasn't going to ask Henderson." - John Ferguson, an assistant co...
