Re: Mike Gillis agrees to contract extension with Canucks

I wonder how the managing partner evaluates the GM: 1. Let's see, the club is making a 100 million dollar a year profit. Where did I put that contract extension? or 2. Let's see.....wait...I don't see it....the frickin Stanley Cup!! I'm going to extend your contract this time, and give you anything ...

Re: Off-Season Trade Thread - Needs/Wants

Nuckle, I am not sure whether to disagree with your analogy, or to agree with it but either way I dispute your conclusion. If the NHL is a war, then Raymond is a soldier who has not been doing his job, and wasn’t doing it before he got injured. The Canucks don’t owe him anything for getting injured ...

Re: From Bountiful to Ponoka

Interesting article referring to the Flames, but with some relevance to the Luongo/Scheider trade value debate:

Rebuilding NHL teams vs. the endowment effect

Re: 2012 UFAs

Hey Fred, that is a good question, and goes to what you and everyone else means by a "#1" defenceman. Some people would say its your best defenceman overall on the ice, others would say its the defenceman with the best offensive numbers, others would say its your best shut down guy, and still others...

Re: 2012 UFAs

Most NHL players have an off year here and there, and Edler's year may be just that. If he can keep his goals and assists up next year, and play like he did last year (until his hand was broken in the playoffs) he is just about as good as anyone. But yes it would be nice to see a lot more tough play...

Re: 2012 UFAs

I would argue that while personally Edler had a good season (ie his goals and assists), team wise he didn't, and in fact he was not nearly as good this year as he was last year for the team. This is of course hard to measure objectively, but I will post the numbers based on Corsi and Fenwick numbers...

Re: MG Post Season Comments

Just to flesh out my previous note mentioning S Bergenheim. I picked Sean Bergenheim as an example as I noted him playing for Florida, and remember his play for Tampa Bay in last years play offs. He seems to be playing mostly left wing on Florida’s second line with M Goc at center and M Samuelsson o...

Re: Coach AV returns next year? Yes or No

Seeing some of the other playoff teams, and their assistant coaches, I wonder if MG will get AV another assistant coach or two. If AV is a defensive specialist, one type of coach that might be worth their cost would be an offensive forward coach, ie a "power forward" coach. Someone who could bring o...

Misread it, sorry. :)

I was trying to think of an analogous situation where people did wrong things all over the place and the ending was not good...sort of opposite to the Pink Panther movies.

Re: MG Post Season Comments

You have to admit that there is some sense in some of RD's suggestions.

Would you rather have Booth at 4.5 million or Sean Bergenheim at 2.75 million for example.

Re: Farhan's $0.02: Hats off to the LA Kings, and other thou

Do I detect a note of sarcasm there Puck? I hope I have read you correctly. If you make a couple of mistakes more than your opponent, you may win. If you make a whole bunch more, your chances of winning are drastically less. How many mistakes did you see LA make? The mistakes weren't just on plays t...

Re: 2012 Post-Mortem thoughts

Well Pot: Injury severe enough that you obviously need surgery? You are right, most surgeries are successful, and only a small chance of poor outcome. Injury that causes you to miss games but heals with treatment? No problem. But if it was this type of injury, why wouldn't they have rested him the l...

Re: 2012 Post-Mortem thoughts

The information that Kessler has a shoulder problem is very unnerving. Unfortunately we are not given any information about what the problem is, so its anyone's guess as to what his future holds. Hopefully they can decide quickly whether or not it can be fixed surgically, and if he needs surgery, th...

Re: 2012 Post-Mortem thoughts

I was thinking about the centers on the teams that have advanced from the west: LA: Kopitar, Richards, Stoll, Fraser Phoenix: Langkow, Vermette, Chipchura, Gordon Preds: Fisher, Legwand, Gaustad, Saplling Blues: Backes, Berglund, Nichol, ?Arnott If you think Kessler is really a third line center, it...

Re: Farhan's $0.02: Hats off to the LA Kings, and other thou

Reefer, they didn’t loose just because they made too many mistakes, but it was a major reason they only won one game. If fixing the mistakes was just up to the coaches, it would have been fixed before the playoffs. They are not idiots and can see the mistakes as readily as the fans. So why did the t...
