Re: Advanced stats/ Moneypuck
Interesting post by Travis Yost yesterday. From: The Shot Quality Myth Revisited http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Travis-Yost/The-Shot-Quality-Myth-Revisited/134/50398#.UVc0unDcGIQ Last paragraph: "And, because of the above, it shouldn't be a surprise that Paul MacLean once famously stated that a team...

Re: 2013 Season Injury Thread
We have not been told the specifics of Booth's injury (ie, does he have complete syndesmotic ligament tears or not...if he does it is a grade 3 injury, if he doesn't it is a grade 2) nor the specifics of the surgical treatment (was it an arthroscopic procedure with cleaning up torn ligamentous debri...

Lots of articles around about the effect of changing coaches/GMs, like these: NHL coaching changes don’t always work http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/Pitter+coaching+changes+always+work/8004071/story.html NHL coaching changes come often, and often have successful results http://articles.philly....

Re: The Sleep Doctor
I enjoy reading about analyitcs, because it is an attempt to be more objective in evaluations, and to try to remove some of the emotion involved in evaluations. MG took one issue (fatigue) and decided that he would try to do something about it to see if that would not only improve the club’s perform...

Re: Luongo will Waive NTC If Asked To
Hey Paddy There was an interesting article recently (Jul 21) over at Broad St. Hockey with goalie comparisons: http://www.broadstreethockey.com/2012/7/21/3021129/evaluating-goalies-in-context-adjusted-save-percentage-or-sv One of the points they made was that almost every goalie has an off year here...

Re: CANUCKS SIGN UFA JASON GARRISON
That Globe and Mail article was from April/2011. I haven’t seen any final summations like that for this past season as yet, but Hockey Independent ranked the top 25 NHL defensive defensemen in Dec/2011, and Garrison wasn’t on the list. http://hockeyindependent.com/blog/slasher98/41485/ Over at Hocke...

Royal Dude is just sick and goddamn tired of losing while alot of people on this site enjoy losing...says alot about the situation...most people on this site are 20 somethings who have watched a decade or so of good teams...some of us have been watching since 1970 and are a little jaded by 40+ year...

Hockey Widow is back, so time to shake off the draft induced drowse, and pay attention. I like the following site because of the way the stats are calculated and presented. This month the site has started using bubble charts and who doesn't like bubbles: http://hockeyanalysis.com/ A May 9, 2012 arti...

Re: Gillis. Who is He?
Did someone mention Sam Pollock? Sam Pollock is generally considered one of the best GMs ever in the NHL. In 1958, when he took over as the director of player personel in Montreal, there were players already on the team like Jean Beliveau, Rocket and Henri Richard, Doug Harvie, Jacques Plante, etc. ...

Re: Gillis. Who is He?
Most years The Hockey News publishes a GM rankings list. And every year there follows a great debate about where GMs should be on the list, and why. But over the years, the question of who is a good GM usually boils down to playoff game numbers, winning percentage in those games, and most importantl...

Sorry Nuckle, I thought the discussion was centering on Raymond. Speaking of centers, It is more difficult to evaluate Malhotra and whether or not he is doing enough for the team and his contract. Looking at his stats while goals were scored when he was on the ice with a "close score" at hockey anal...
