Re: Alex Edler's next contract

The first issue is which Edler thread to put this in... Alex Edler is by far the best offensive defenseman on the team. His skating is very good. No one on the team can spring a breakaway like Edler. He has a great shot but the vision not to use it all the time. He has an off the charts offensive IQ...

Paranteau or Hudler? I think the Flames got the better player -- but I'd much rather have David Booth....

Re: CANUCKS SIGN UFA JASON GARRISON

While there is some risk to signing players to a long term deal, this has been the trend under the structure of the current CBA -- a structure that I doubt will be overhauled in this round of negotiations. What we have seen is that even if a player is overpaid, the increasing cap means that the FA m...

Re: Farhan's $0.05 - The way we used Kesler in 2011 playoffs

Farhan's $0.05 - The way we used Kesler in 2011 playoffs vs. this year (paraphrasing) -- Kesler needs to be a two way center In the playoffs, I think you are right. In my view, one of the misconceptions about no-place-for-Hodgson argument or the need-for-a-true-checking-center argument is that Kesl...

Re: Luongo will Waive NTC If Asked To

Schneider and back up equals 4.4 million (3.5 and 900K) next year. Cap space created 1.8 million. I doubt it. CS is an RFA. It would be entirely reasonable for a GM to throw $6.2 million at him --- that's (approximately) the cap for first, second, and third in compensation. For straight up trade va...

Re: OOTS 11/12 playoff edition

Oliver Ekman-Larsson, age 20, played 31 minutes last night for the Coyotes in his first Stanley Cup playoff game ever. Most minutes of any player in that game not wearing a goalie mask. He didn't just play those minutes. He played spectacularly well in those minutes. He's a *great* skater and obvio...

Re: GDT: Canucks host Kings - 7pm - TSN, NBCSN

Th thing with MAG is he has a wicked pass. Harder than some guys shots. You have to be ready for his pass because it will be slamming hard and usually on the money. Defensively he is improving his game. I like Gragnani enough to want to see him with the Canucks for a season. I think he has a great ...

Re: The Sedin & Keith Affair

Throughout this whole discussion, it has been reported that Shanahan is on record saying he does not believe punishment is a deterrent. He looks more at a education process, videos of what is accepted and what isn't as an example, to change the behaviour of the players. The penalty handed out to Ke...

Re: Prospects Thread 2011-12

For SC: On Labate. The good news is that he showed why he should be considered a prospect. The bad news is that he showed why he was a fourth round pick. Towards the beginning of the year, Labate looked like everything you could hope for. Big frame, high offensive IQ, decent hands, didn't look out o...

Re: Justin Schultz ...who the heck...????

I have seen this kid play a fair amount of hockey live. There have been several NHL caliber (or tweeners) coming through here in recent years. I think he is better than all of them. Think of the guys that have been here recently: Jake Gardiner, Brendan Smith, Jaime McBain, Ryan McDonough, Davis Drew...

Re: Are the Sedins on the Decline?

I am finding the "New look" Sedin line interesting. This is , to my knowledge , the first time they've been coupled to a winger that isn't known to go to the dirty areas and fight it out in front of the net. Markus Naslund, his last season in Vancouver. Lots of line juggling that year, but at least...

Re: Canucks get Zack Kassian

I think it more likely the assets from a Schneider deal would be turned into Weber. I'm thinking (perhaps with heart more than head) that Schneider would be nice to turn into a BC boy by the name of Connolly from a team dying for a goalie. That as well. Gillis has the chance to re-stock the cupboar...

Re: Canucks get Zack Kassian

UWS, what are your thoughts about the way Hodgson was used here? I just can't help the feeling that the Canucks thought they would have to go out of their way to hide Hodgson, particularly on the road.. I know the Canucks did very poorly on the road in the playoffs last year where they couldn't get...

Re: Canucks get Zack Kassian

Now that I have more time to think about it, I wonder if the Kassian pickup is a precursor to a bigger move this summer. Not every team desires a skilled 2nd line center without speed like Cody, but a big-bodied powerforward like Kassian can be packaged in any deal, especially a deal for a more est...

Re: Canucks get Zack Kassian

However, in the end having big, skilled players that can protect the puck and go to the net is certainly better than not having them. The additions Gillis has made haven't been knuckle draggers. I agree with this -- GMMG is not interested in one-dimensional players. And I think swapping Sammuelsson...
