Re: Canucks get Zack Kassian

People shouldn't sell Kassian short.... Agreed -- Kassian has great upside, but I think there is more volatility in Kassian. I don't mean suspensions or assault charges; I mean risk that the downside is a marginal NHL player as opposed to a second line center (Hodgson's downside unless injury makes...

Re: Canucks get Zack Kassian

This isn't Hodgson for Kassian. It is Hodgson + extra salary for Kassian and Gragnani. They say that the player that gets the best player wins the trade. If that's the case, the Canucks have an 85% of losing this trade. Cody Hodgson was far from perfect, but he is now a decent NHL player and should ...

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion

Souray is an overpaid floater. We dont need his kind here While I agree that the Canucks don't need Souray, he isn't overpaid. He was overpaid, but now is on a $1.65 million deal. Any third pairing defenseman is worth that money in today's NHL; if you can contribute to a power play, all the better ...

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion

Vermette is to Jacket fans what Raymond is to canuck fans right now...except Vermette has a longer, higher priced contract. This is a very astute observation, the the players are very similar in their attributes, commitment to both sides of the ice, and skill set (and skill weaknesses). There are t...

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion

My thoughts as to where we stand. A third line upgrade: This is a skilled team. There is depth in the top 9 that other teams wish they had in the top 6. Given the makeup, some argue that this depth comes at the expense of a shut down line. But the Canucks have shut down talent in the top 9 and depth...

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion

It certainly makes no sense to wait until the deadline to add important pieces for a Cup run. .... Up until now, the Preds actual salary costs for this season are less than last year's! How does that spell "commitment"? :wow: The Nashville Predators are equal to the Canucks in points, with one more...

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion

If you are a realist, Montreal is done for the season. In the Cammalleri trade, they got a little bit worse but freed up a lot of money ($2.67 million per season). A little bit worse than what they were (bad) means there is no reason to believe this team can make the playoffs, even in the weaker eas...

Re: The BS Suspension Thread

I do not believe Marchand should be suspended. First, the hit was not the sort the NHL is cracking down on (head, knee) or should be cracking down on (slew foot, spear). They haven't liked the hit since Tucker took out Peca I believe. They do not like a low bridge hit though a hip check they are ok...

Re: The BS Suspension Thread

I do not believe Marchand should be suspended. First, the hit was not the sort the NHL is cracking down on (head, knee) or should be cracking down on (slew foot, spear). Second, the principal point of contact was the thigh, not the knee or below. He got down, but not *way* down. Marchand is a short ...

Re: "Just take the abuse" game plan

The Sedins are targeted because you can, any one can, they're easy marks, and the league & officials contrary to MG belief don't respect the Sedins or their accomplishments..... If anything, the Sedins are beneficiaries of lax officiating. They given a significant leash. I do not believe that there...

Re: "Just take the abuse" game plan

One minor change I'd like to propose is that we give the captaincy to Kesler and have the Sedins be the A's. I know I know. Who cares about the C. Well... if the C didn't mean anything then why is there a C in the first place? Hank isn't being targeted because he's the captain, he's being targeted ...

Re: Henrik Sedin - best passer.... ever?

Update:  Eric over at Broad St. Hockey has an interesting post looking at individual shooting percentages as opposed to on-ice shooting percentages as I did above.  Four of the players he looked at are H. Sedin, Crosby, Thornton and Datsyuk and for each he looked at a number of teammates with at le...

Re: Henrik Sedin - best passer.... ever?

Gretzky started his career in an era that saw top goalies posting GAA's in the 3.00+ range. It was wide open, end-to-end hockey where the hockey gods always catered to the run-and-gun team with most flash and dash. Gretzky was also passing to some top end talent. The clutch and grab hockey became m...

Re: GDT: Les Canucks câlisser une volée Les Habs! - 430PM; S

Mason Raymond had an outstanding season a couple years ago in which he finished a bit and learned to excel on the forecheck and defensively. Last year, the offense dried up considerably, but the defense improved. Remarkably -- given all the time off and the nature of the injury -- Raymond looks like...

Re: Canucks Acquire David Booth & Parts + Various Rumours

David Booth is a far better player than Michael Sammuelsson and fits the team better. This has been a great trade, and the line of Booth/Kesler/Higgins is only going to improve as Booth gets more comfortable and Kesler gets back to 100%. I have no doubt GMMG has a plan to deal with the cap consequen...
