Re: When will the Canucks Next make the playoffs

I was talking about his drop from 70+ points in his contract year, to 52 points in year 1 of the $10 million deal. And as I mentioned, the three-year average was 63 points, before last season's breakout performance. IMO, $10 million for 8 more years of 50ish points would be the worst contractb in th...

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 18-19 Sponsored by SKYO

Trouba gets 1-year, $5.5 million in arbitration. After a "marathon" arbitration arson session, they just literally split the difference! I had thought there was a rule that a player isn't tradeable after the team accepts the arbitration ruling, but I must have had that mixed up with matching a...

Re: What to do with Hughes

Yeah the ELC isn't as big of a deal as the countdown to unrestricted free agency. IIRC, that happens at the 40 game mark. I know that that's the accepted wisdom, but I don't agree. That extra year of an ELC will save $3-5 million in cap space. For the hand-wringing in this market over Beagle and Ro...

Re: When will the Canucks Next make the playoffs

Interesting point, is Kopitar a better better than Henrik? If Kopitar goes back to 50ish points for the rest of his contract, he will be a boat-anchor. But if he gets a couple more seasons of his career average 70-75 points, they may continue to have a shot at the postseason. I guess that's the big ...

Re: When will the Canucks Next make the playoffs

Kopitar and Carter is a great 1-2 punch up the middle and Kopitar is a top 10 centre in his sleep. He is a two way horse and good for 75 points a year. Prior to his career-year last year, he'd been averaging more like 65 points. He's cracked 75 points twice in the past decade. When he's a 70+ point...

Re: When will the Canucks Next make the playoffs

Doughty is a top 3 d man in the game. His season was no fluke, neither was Kopitar’s or Quick’s season. They are top 5 players in the league at their positions. I’ll grant you Brownie had a flukey season and looked like he was back in 2012. Still they have Muzzin and Martinez on that back end as we...

Re: When will the Canucks Next make the playoffs

As an asside where will Vancouver finish in the Pacific next season? San Jose LA Vegas Calgary Edmonton Anaheim Phoenix Vancouver I don’t think they will be any better than 6th and that’s if everything goes well. Great question! Worthy of its own thread, in the dog days of summer, IMESHO. I think L...

Re: What to do with Hughes

Ummm... Hughes signing and and pushing the Canucks out of a good draft position is a bad thing? This, I don’t understand. After the last few lotteries, it’s amazing people still want to tank. Why not hope they make the playoffs? Even if they just miss, they could still win the lottery. Totally! Und...

Re: Canucks Contracts

All three, when signed, were ~8% of the total cap hit for the upcoming season So if those three are comparables, that puts Brock in at about 6.35 per If Pastrnak is the comparable, his 9% equates to 7.15 per If Draisaitl and his 11.3% is the comparable, then Brock is looking at 8.9 per ^ Those numb...

Re: Canucks Contracts

Lol, yeahno, you don't get to dis-include Draisaitl my friend! McDave got $12.5M X 8... but he's at least 50% better than Boeser. Eichel got $10 X 8... but he's 25% better. Draisaitl got $8.5 X 8... we're getting warmer. Your boy Pastrnak only got $6.66M-per but that's only a 6-year contract ... YU...

Re: When will the Canucks Next make the playoffs

I feel like a coward, I hedged and said 2019/20. I think it may have been Blob who pointed out prior to last year, the Canucks needed absolutely everything to work out and not get an ounce of bad luck, to make the playoffs in 2017/18. Next year they need quite a bit of things to go right, but have i...

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 18-19 Sponsored by SKYO

Three of the Canucks' top-6 PP ice time players are gone - Sedins and Vanek. I'd like to see that icetime go to guys like Eriksson, Baertschi and Gagner. Pump up their value early in the season with PP points. If the kids are creating a logjam at forward, then its that much easier to move those guys...

Re: Canucks Young Guns

I'm a little surprised that even when Goldobin was given more opportunity in the garbage days of the season, he was still only getting 13-14 min/game. Leipsic averaged almost 17 min/game in his stint. I think Leispic and Goldy are very similar. I was at the game where Leipsic's turnover lead to the ...

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 18-19 Sponsored by SKYO

I’m not sure there’s enough value there to take on 3 more years of Hossa’s deal. If that’s the return I’d rather keep my powder dry. Ya I agree with you - this wasn't a hockey trade, this was a cheap owner getting an insured contract to get to the cap floor. I wonder what it would take to get Troub...

Re: Canucks Young Guns

I put Goldobin, Dahlen and Leipsic all on the same level of potential offensive wingers. Dahlen being the youngest still holds the most upside imo. But if one of the 3 turns into a bona fide top-6 winger (40+ points), that's still a very good return for Furrows, Hansen and Holm. If 2 of the 3 turn o...
