Re: Cap Floor & Mr Ballard

At the time MacDonald seemed like a fringe guy whose numbers were grossly inflated by his linemates. Looking back at his numbers on marginal STL teams though, I don't think I gave him enough credit. But maybe that's a cautionary tale - today we say Bert for MacDonald made them older and slower, at t...

Re: Vcr Draft Review

After looking back at the Ducks drafting, its interesting that this year's risky picks are generally in favour of size, some the Canucks have defintely not targeted in the past. I like the theory that if you're going to gamble, swing for the fences by getting bigger. Certainly prefer that kind of ri...

Re: Cap Floor & Mr Ballard

Its funny, looking back on the deconstruction of the Ducks, you can't avoid blaming Niedermayer and Selanne for holding out and forcing Burkie to sign Schneider and Bertuzzi as a replacement. What a messed up offseason that one was - Niedermayer, Selanne, and Sundin all "contemplating retirement" un...

Re: MacTavish to coach Chi-Wolves..

True enough on Selanne, its not fair to point to one thing over an 82 game schedule and calling it the TSN turning point that cost them the playoffs....but it sure is easy, which is why I understand MacT feeling like a scapegoat. Interesting comparison on Trotz - another coach trying to do a lot wit...

Re: MacTavish to coach Chi-Wolves..

If I recall MacTavish felt very much like he was a scapegoat and wanted to get away from coaching for awhile. ... He's gotten a lot out of not much. He knows what it takes to win, he has coached young players and verterans alike with good success. It's a good move. Its easy to feel like a scapegoat...

Re: Cap Floor & Mr Ballard

Yep... & the NYR had Boogard,it worked for the Rangers not so much for the Penguins which would explain why they're looking at McIntire this year. If I remember correct Gretzky wouldn't agree to the move to LA without McSorley.....now McSorely was what I would describe as proactive. [/quote] Not tha...

Re: MacTavish to coach Chi-Wolves..

Considering its taken 3 years to get a job (allegedly) coaching in the minors, I'm not so sure he is all that highly-respected around the league. Can't take away a trip to the SCF, but he's hardly the first coach to ride a longshot to the finals - see Flames, Flyers, Hurricanes, Ducks in 03. I'm not...

Re: The Power Forward

Reading that article makes me grateful for a place like this where people write opinions supported by evidence and with more than a modicum of thought put behind it. Seriously, almost everybody in this thread has posted better "articles" than this professional. I thank you all for giving something w...

Re: MacTavish to coach Chi-Wolves..

MacT sure went down in a blaze of glory though on that stick-measuring fiasco. Its not often you can conclusively point to a coach and say he cost his team the game and possibly a spot in the playoffs, but this one comes close! I'm actually surprised he'd get consideration, he always struck me as so...

Re: Hodgson Outlook

I thought when he got into the playoffs he looked much improved from the reg season, much better speed. I am fully confident that he can be a 40-50 point player in the right situation, and my confidence that he'll be better than that has greatly increased. I guess Clam's examples do show that a cent...

Re: Western Conference In/Out Thread

Looking at the ins/outs it may appear San Jose lost some toughness but I really, really like the addition of Mr. Burns. Heatley will do better in Minnesota than Havlat will in SJ. But ... IF Havlat stays healthy he is as dangerous as anyone IMO. Playing with a legitimate setup man will undoubtedly ...

Re: Cap Floor & Mr Ballard

Interesting in comparing Bieksa, Edler and Tanev in their first NHL seasons as call-ups: Bieksa had 6 points in 39 games, Edler had 3 points in 22 games, Tanev had 1 point in 19. The main difference though is Bieksa and Edler's offensive numbers with the Moose were much better than Tanev's, but clea...

Re: Hodgson Outlook

All Moose fans, (now Jets fans) but they love Hodgson, so they think we're idiots in Vancouver for not suiting up the guy on a regular basis. Interesting to hear that from people who watch him regularly. I wonder where does he fit in long-term. Kesler and Henrik are basically Canucks for life, and ...
