Re: Canucks have signed Owen Nolan and Todd Fedoruk to PTO

I've been unable to find any news explaining why Nolan only played 24 games in Switzerland last year. He didn't sign until late-October, and I believe their season starts early-September, but its 50 game season so I can't rule out some sort of injury. Hopefully Nolan found Selanne's knee surgeon whi...

Re: Canucks have signed Owen Nolan and Todd Fedoruk to PTO

Regardless, at the very worst they're two washed up vets who won't make the final round of cuts. To be fair, at the very worst they leverage a strong camp with the Canucks into an extremely cap-friendly contract with a divisional rival and almost put said rival into the playoffs  Wow, Todd Fed...

How many Cups did Brodeur, Roy or Hasek win playing on non-stacked teams? The answer is more than 0 and far less than the number of rings they have. In fact, in is much closer to zero. I would go with 2: Roy's second cup in 1993 and Brodeur in 95. For that matter, who else in the post lockout would...

Re: Shea Weber 1yr 7.5m from arbitration

Nashville can take him to arbitration again next year, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Shea a Predator for the next 2 seasons. Under the CBA a team can initiate arbitration only once per player. Players can request arbitration each year until they become a UFA. After this contract, Weber will be ...

Re: trades, worthy of chat!

I believe that the benefit to Weber for being taken to arbitration by the team is that he gets to decide if he wants a one-year or a two-year deal. If he takes a one year deal, then he can't be protected by arbitration next year and can be poached with an offer sheet.

Re: Kesler Has Hip Surgery, 10-12 Weeks

I don't think the concern should be over the games that Kesler will miss, but there should be concern over the condition of his return, both long and short term. Longterm, having hip surgery could impact his skating, which is a key component to anyone's game. Look at Morrison after his injury. He h...

Re: So, where do the Islanders end up?

Yeah I bet it's highly embarrassing to the league that fans in several major cities in Canada and the US are clamoring for an NHL team they can spend their money on. ;) The embarrassing part being busloads of QC fans targeting a US franchise as a POS, and taking over their barn with jerseys from a ...

Re: So, where do the Islanders end up?

they didnt the first time...??? Apparently the Habs did vote against merging with the WHA in 1979, which would have included the Nordiques. A beer strike by Nordique fans against Molson (the owners of the Habs) succeeded in pressuring them to vote for the merger later in 79. The Habs no vote was no...

Re: So, where do the Islanders end up?

Here's an article by John Shannon, who a thoughtful journalist http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2011/08/02/shannon_blog_islanders/ He mentions contraction. Lol at the photo of the Islanders fan rally picture accompanying the article!! Sums up the whole situation right there. I don't fully support a t...

Re: Parise 1 year 6 Milliom

It's just a lame reporter's opinion on Weber. But I get the same feel for both Parise and Weber. They are the key players on teams that want them, don't see either player being traded. Eventually a deal will be done to keep them. I have this article bookmarked: http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/20...

Re: Canucks Bottom 6: Grit at the expense of scoring.......

Plus, being a west-coast team, you have to expect going through periods (like in the playoffs) where 2-3 of your top 6 are out with injury, Are you saying there is a correlation between living playing on the west coast and being injured? I think he just means tougher style of hockey..for the most p...

Re: From Bountiful to Ponoka

Ripping on the Flames just isn't much fun anymore. They're like the Burke-era Leaves, the worst of all worlds - no cap space, no prospects, crappy team. And now they've missed the playoffs back-to-back, something the Canucks haven't done since 98-2000, and we all remember how sad those years were. I...

Re: Canucks Bottom 6: Grit at the expense of scoring.......

I disagree with this premise. I think the Canucks strength is scoring depth. The fact is, every player goes through cycles of productivity throughout the season. The reason the Canucks put up the best record last year is that you could almost always count on one of the top 3 lines to be hot and prob...

Re: Parise 1 year 6 Milliom

Except Weber has two years before he becomes UFA I didn't want to believe that was true, but Coco Canuck schooled me :( However, I have now accepted that the Predators will see Weber doesn't want to stay there and realize his trade value will be much higher when he still has one RFA left than eithe...
