Re: Best War Movie?

Surprised no one has mentioned U-571.

Also liked The Thirteenth Day (cold war flick).

Re: Is the Canuck Cupboard THAT Bare?

Canucks never drafted Burrows, if you want to consider him then you have to credit Detroit with getting guys like Dan Cleary. Dan Cleary was DRAFTED by Chicago in the first round in 97 and was picked up by the Red Wings after the lockout. At that point he had been an AHL call-up for 3 years, a NHL ...

Re: Langkow to Phoenix for Stempniak possibly

Lee Stempniak can become the best player on the Flames Leaf-castoff line (Stempniak-Stajan-Hagman); last year the three players combined for 36 goals, 60 assists and $8.4m in cap hit. I'd like to say this is an improvement for the Flames, but outside of this season (which doesn't really matter much...

Re: Is the Canuck Cupboard THAT Bare?

There really haven't been that many teams that have drafted as well as the Red Wings, especially considering they always seem to be selecting from 25-30 every single year . That there is why they get recognition as being uncanny draftsmen. In 1983 the Red Wings drafted Yzerman, perhaps one of the b...

Re: TV Shows: What are you watching?

Game of Thrones is far and away the best new series this year IMHO. Never read the books, want to now. Was totally blindsided when they killed Sean Bean and Jason Momoa, but love any story with the balls to put some early build up into some characters and then kill them. I'm an even bigger fan of t...

Somewhere there is a former Canucks message board owner/administrator blaming Harper for this.

Re: Vancouver vs. Chicago: comparing the players and future

I'm just surprised anyone would mention Tanner Glass. Why didn't he mention Bieksa? He's probably scared of Bieksa and realizes that calling out a guy like Glass, or a hot and cold skater like Torres, isn't going to garner too much attention from anyone in the league but Vancouver. However, after t...

America Is Eff'd!

So our southern neighbor just got bitch slapped for their over-spending ways when Obama opened his mail this morning and saw a letter from the bank of Standard & Poor informing him that the well was dry and Rango wasn't showing up to save the day. I'm pretty happy that Harper has been playing his ha...

Re: Vancouver vs. Chicago: comparing the players and future

Great post! :D I agree with most of what you said, Klatt. But I don't understand where the "myth" of Chicago having superior secondary scoring comes from. :? Shouldn't we rely on statistics here? And, Meds, why do you say that Hossa is better than our top three? Hossa has not put together a PPG sea...

Re: Fantasy Talk

That would be cool, really like building an NHL dream team... but poor Scotty Gomez would be the one kid that never gets picked :( ... and it would have nothing to do with his salary Sorry. My bad. The word I was looking for was auction pool. Though it is similar to the cap. However if everyone is ...

Re: Topper's Grilling Advice!

Yeah, the 150 is why it went back on. Didn't trust it. It was 160 when I took it off, and they say that meat should gain up to 10 degrees if you let it sit for 10 minutes before carving it up. Next time I'll up the temp to 450 (according to my BBQ thermo). Or I'll try the thermometer on the upper ra...

Re: Vancouver vs. Chicago: comparing the players and future

Going by Klatt's breakdown..... As of now, heading into 2012-13 Vancouver has the edge on defense. Regardless how good Keith and Seabrook are, once you get beyond them Chicago's blueline is pretty thin and not hard to out perform. Keith and Seabrook can play serious minutes, but we saw in games 1-3 ...

Re: Fantasy Talk

I use ESPN's site because it incorporates the live draft and a salary cap which really levels the ice-surface on draft day. A couple guys from one of my leagues spent the farm on Crosby, Ovechkin, Toews, Kane, and Stamkos. I ended up with Daniel for a reasonable amount. Oh and by spent the farm I me...

Re: Shea Weber 1yr 7.5m from arbitration

Doesn't matter whether Hamhuis was dead set on being a Canuck or not. He was entering unrestricted free agency no matter who traded what or where. If Weber is indeed stuck being one of Nashville's RFA's after the 2011-12 season then he's playing a different game and will have to play the hold-out ca...
